    Right thing

You did the right thing, but lots of morons wear those "patriotic" t-shirts. Ever listen to talk radio? Lots of patriotic people are total idiots.

EmptinesS, that was a great post. Fighting is best left in the ring. Finding a balance is all of the wisdom of the world in a nutshell.

Depends on your definition of "Patriotic".

Does patriotism require you to blindly follow what the government (or your church, or everyone at your work, etc) says or is using the freedom of speech and protest that your forefathers fought for a better use of it.

Is a vietnam veteran who protests about the war or his treatment "unpatriotic" and therefore an idiot?

I think Patriotism is more than that.
"It" being what?Too what? What are you saying? That is a rather sweeping generalization.Wow it sounds really interesting, .Is this a riddle? You're kidding.
              selfish is?

                war

War is usually pretty stupid unless it's in your own boarder. I guess it's just like fighting. They should have just had Sadaam and Bush get in the octogon instead of getting a bunch of young people killed.

There is no tone of voice on the forum

Keep in mind that I didn't mean real patriotic people, I meant (sarcastic tone) those people who just get flag stickers on their car but don't really do anything else. Or people who say that whatever the gov't does is right because its OUR gov't. I just didn't want you to get the wrong idea.

                    lost through typing

sometimes you don't get the tone of voice when its done typing. I'm glad we are able to talk though. We would have to all get plane tickets to talk about this in person.

Patroitism requires you to gaurd the country and its constitution, regardless of the thugs and buffoons who say its unpatriotic to question the decisions of elected officials.

Which protesters dont have the good of the country in thier motives? Or more to the point, who is protesting something they dont believe in? If you believe in a cause, as an American doesnt free speech gaurantee you that right? After all its living here that allows me to bitch without certain visits from thugs... ...so far

Is it any less unpatriotic for high profile politicians or religious leaders to make idiotic statements that endanger our troops or relations with other nations? Than it is for a mother who lost her son to protest the war?

didnt Bill Clinton LEAD anti war protests IN Vietnam?

EEK!!! I used to agree with these thoughts but come on man! Saddam would have KICKED George never done an honest days work in his lifes ASS!! Funny as it would have been, we would be screwed. I like the idea of making it mandatory that ALL (congress and everyone in the White House policy making positions) politicians have a child in the front lines of any and all police actions, exercises, shields, peace keeping (whatever they call it to get around the laws)....all actions that involve the military. you might find we have alot more diplomacy and a little less "Bring it on."

Anything political is always a good way to start an argument. :-) Maybe next week we can try religion.
