  • UFC XXX Thoughts.....

Hope everyone had a great holiday! I've been training real hard with Marco the past few weeks. If I didn't mention it already, he's planning to fight in the UFC in May and I can tell you he will be ready!

I just saw the line-up for the UFC. Marco was telling me about Pedro's matchup with Josh Barnett. If he wins, the plan is for him to fight Couture for the title.

    Anyway, here is my predictions:

Tiki Vs. Sean Sherk - Tiki (probably by strikes - this is a guess I've never seen Sherk fight).

Jens Pulver Vs. Ryan Bow - Pulver by decision - I haven't been this excited about a fight since Frank and Tito setup their match. Ryan is from Frank's studio and I got to roll with him about a year and a half ago. He has the most natural ability of any fighter I've seen or rolled-with bar none! But is lazy and Pulver isn't.

Jeremy Horn Vs. Cafe Dantes - Horn by decision

Pedro Rizzo Vs. Josh Barnett - Rizzo by knock-out. Pedro will wear this guy down.

Eugene Jackson Vs. Igor Zinoviev - Zinoviev by decision.

Bobby Hoffman Vs. Andrei Orlovskiy - Orlovskiy submission.

    Your predictions?????????

Who are the tentative opponents for Marco in May's UFC?
I saw Ryan Bow win his weight class in a prior Superbrawl. He is a really good grappler, who goes for the submission. He never had to show his standup skills, so I wonder if they compare w/ his ground skills. If he fights Pulver I bet Jens will try to keep it standing. Hopefully, Ryan has been training standup, at least enough to defend and set up a takedown.
A Pedro Rizzo fight vs Jogh Barnett fight is intriguing. I'd love to see how their standup compares. I bet Rizzo tries to take it to the ground. If they clinch, Josh is very good at letting the other fighter carry his weight. Josh will also win the clinch since he can throw some vicious knees all night long. Both are very good at submissions and I see either Josh in Rizzo's guard or Rizzo getting side control on a takedown. Rizzo is better at positioning himself during the fall/takedown. We saw this in his fight w/ Severn and w/ Gan McGee. The winner will likely be whoever gets the better ground position. This is a very good matchup. I like both fighters, but I'd love to see a Rizzo vs Couture matchup.

      MEB Boy:

I don't think Perreti has given him a possible opponent yet. I'll let you know if I hear otherwise. I should mention that, to my knowledge, the agreement is verbal and not signed at this point.

UFC XXX...sounds like a porno title

I've never heard of half of those guys, cause I've been outta the UFC loop for a lil' while. I've been catching up lately, though. I'm glad to see that Zinoviev is back. That would suck if he was out for good because of his injury.

I think Horn may suprise Cafe with some strikes, but I think you're right in saying that Horn will take it by decision.

I would like to see Rizzo win this one (cause I think he's pretty cool), but I don't know the other guy, so I can't really make an analysis.

I think Igor will win by submission. Possibly a arm lock, or achilles/ankle lock.

              igor

any word on whether igor z. is really back up to snuff for this match?

i always liked igor's work, but injuries take their toll on a body . . .

josh barnett did not impress me in the least. he seemed to have a hard time with his last UFC fight, even though it was not with one of the elite. sure the guy was huge, but he did not look good beating him. rizzo always looks good, this will be an easy fight for him.

                  Rizzo=domination

I think that Rizzo will dominate Barnett just like he dominated Severn in 28. It'll prolly be on the ground, though, not a standup knockout.

The benefit Bow will have is that his stablemate, David Velasquez, fought Pulver in a prior UFC. Frank and him will have Ryan prepared.

MEB: To answer your question, Ryan is an excellent stand-up fighter, but I only rolled with him and didn't exhange blows. He's incredibly quick. I think it would be wise of him not to try and trade punches with Pulver.

I am confident Pedro will take this one. I am expecting a knockout later in the fight - Pedro is in excellent shape right now and will be ready for this.
