I don't know the guys that were fighting (except the one who provided the beatdown is pretty well known there). I do know other guys who were there when it happened, and I know the culture of those guys... I'm sure if you search the net, you'll be able to get the complete video too - I saw it online a while ago. It has the footage of the altercation in the water.

Tang Soo Do for those who dont know =
60% Soo Bahk
30% Northen Chinese
10% Southern Chinese
TSD is both a hard and soft style, derriving hardness from Soo Bahk, and soft flowing movements from Northen Chinese systems.
edit:I cant belive i bought into this ^lies, lies. TSD is shotokan with a Korean name and an emphasis on hip movement.
yea its the same one. though in the video you see a guy close to the fight holding a handheld camera i saw it from that camera. Theres definately alot more to it than i thought.

A problem is emerging
This is a good question. BJJ is an incredible martial art and science. No doubt about it. It is a complete martial art unto itself. There are many schools and practitioners of BJJ that are taught honor, discipline, respect, and humility. We all know, have seen these people, or are one of them.
However, I have noticed an emerging thug culture that has taken an interest in BJJ. I hesitate to even say that this culture learns BJJ, because in my mind the term, BJJ assumes a true organized martial art. The interest is more so in MMA that uses BJJ techniques but is not BJJ.
What distinguishes a martial art in the traditional use of that term from “thugary” is discipline and humility. I suppose you could say that the “style” being sought after is more of the MMA style which, in my mind, is different from BJJ at least in strategy and philosophy. This is not to single out this “style” or the NHB competition in which you find this style as the CAUSE of this.
However, after being in one form of martial art or another for most of my life, it is dissatisfying and discouraging to me to see the arrogant display of pride, thugishness, and general bad attitude by this new crowd of people.
So, my answer to the question is, “yes, BJJ does teach discipline. But there is a growing crowd of thugs who are learning BJJ TECHNIQUES without learning the true art and discipline of BJJ.” BJJ is not the cause anymore than weapons are the cause of violence. But, the fact is that BJJ works. That is the attraction of the irresponsible and criminally inclined.
What is the solution? For one, a more unified curriculum and federation would help immensely. Take the close cousin if not father of BJJ, Judo. Judo is effective, deadly etc.. Judo the MA and not Judo the sport is arguably the same as BJJ if the Judo school uses the guard which most do nowadays. Judo is a good example of an organized martial arts community. There are other examples as well. No, this would not eliminate the rough and tumble “schools” that have popped up that incorporate grappling techniques into their fighting techniques, but it would help put them out of business and replace them with professional schools that filter out those with bad intentions.
In my opinion history is repeating itself in a less dramatic way. In Japan there were many Jujitsu schools with bad intentions. Judo emerged to combine the best of all the Jujitsu techniques and create a professional organization that taught discipline, respect, and humility as much as it taught a deadly art. This is what we need now for MMA.

Originally posted by seanyseanybeanHi, i saw a clip on the net of this non-MA surfer guy getting pummeled by a guy who looked like he did BJJ (do you know the one i mean) because the BJJ guy had stolen his board or something and the surfer guy was just trying to reason with him, the surfer guy got taken to the floor and pinned down while the BJJ guy reined blows down on him, the surfer managed to get him in a headlock but the BJJ guys friend said "let go or i'll break your nose". This left me with a really cold feeling as i thought if the wrong kind of people learn an art like BJJ because they saw it on UFC or something and go looking for trouble then people are gonna get really hurt. I am basically asking do they teach self dicipline in BJJ schools? what are peoples views on this.
P.S please dont think that i am accusing or presuming BJJ is like this, i am just asking.
Ive been taught to break the guys arm is you get it in a fight..but not to pick fights for no reason

no no the problem isn't emerging it's just migrating
there's been a problem with the thug culture in boxing and kickboxing for a numbers of years now, the bully boys have just realized the mma is the shiznit and are trying to get new toys that's all , think about how many guys have like multipe belts in ma and get into street stuff a good number of them.
Sad but true btw how do you guys feel about showboating in the ring/doing wacko stuff after winning like climbing on the ropes or cage and screaming/ throwing the mouth guard ect. or other demonstrations or rage/happiness
pro or con I'm undecided

good question. i'm well against it. i watched cabbage v tank, and i was really shocked to see cabbage do a victorydance in the middle of the ring while tank was being checked over by a docter. i thought it was disrespectful. i much prefer to see two fighters comending each other to show their respect at the end of a fight.

I watched that clip. The guy that fights is a BJJ guy trained by Kai Garcia, I read an article on that guy a few months ago in ESPN magazine, these guys **** people up on the beaches on the north shore. Great article. That guy, I cant remember his name, did 9 months in prison after some guy sped down his street, ran over and killed his pitbull, and then drove away, he chased the guy and beat him near death.
