hey all
so i tried a ninjitsu class the other day and overall it was pretty dissapointing.
the rolling and breakfalling was pretty useful & fun, but then we started doing defences against sword attacks. the guy with the sword would stand completely rigid and then just attack and you had to get away using a pre-determined technique (some of which included cartwheels!)
the empty hand stuff was pretty similar, one person attacks completely unrealistically with ONE strike then you do your counter. granted I was a beginner in the class so they wouldn't have put me in the sh*t straight away but the other students were doing the same thing.
seemed very similar to japanese ju jitsu. lots of Uke & Tori type training but with no sparring.
i won't go back I think but it was good just to see what others are doing

You kind of have to do those dumb technique to develop attributes to move on to the next phase, fighting against resistance.
