Tonight's Reality Submission Fighting, the main card of which featured Rodrigo Vaghi blue-belt Steve Berger against Carl Schmitt, was a tremendous fight I was proud to witness. From the opening bell the fight went to the ground, as Schmitt attempted a takedown which Berger rolled into an arm-bar attempt, which was defended by Schmitt. The next 5 rounds was a grueling display of arm-bar, triangle, and leg-lock attempts by Berger who worked on his back using the guard, and Schmitt looking to pass and throw strikes through Berger's guard. The fight went to the fifth round, despite several near submissions by Berger, and was stopped due to cuts near Berger's right eye, ending the fight with the win for Schmitt. Throughout the fight Berger looked primarily for the submissions, with Schmitt looked for strikes from the top. Berger showed the greatest heart and dedication I've seen in any fighter, and displayed tremendous technique from his guard. An amazing fight, surely the best of the night, and I look to see Steve continue to improve and establish himself as a true force in NHB.

(I've forgotten the names of several of the competitors, so forgive me for not including them)

Pat Benson, also from Vaghi Jiu-Jitsu, lost by an extremely controversial referee stop early in his fight again a Judo and Sambo fighter. Benson shot for his legs and his opponent applied a guiattine (sp?) and dropped to guard. Benson looked very calm, relaxing and working to free the hold, when the referee stopped the fight, which infuriated Benson, who showed no signs of fatigue from the choke, and the Vaghi camp, who quickly secured a rematch set for March 20. An unfortunate end to what may have been an incredible fight.

Brian Guildry, again from Vaghi Jiu-Jitsu, won his fight in the first round by straight arm-bar.

Lastly, it was announced that Dan Severn, commentator for the fights, would face Mike Rogers, also of Vaghi Jiu-Jitsu, in the March 20 event!!!
