Warm up real good, run around the building the or something, go in calm and dont waste a ton of energy holding the guy in your guard. Be agressive though, always be on the attack and if you lose then so be it...everyone does. You'll learn more in a tournement fight than in 6 months of training....its the real deal now

Commit to every submission attempt & sweep 110%. If you know it's gonna happen, then it probably will. You can relax for a few seconds when you've found a dominent position, but don't hold back any energy if it's tournament style - it's better to win your first and gas on your second, than to lose your first because you were 'pacing yourself'...

Try to ignore the nerves & adrenaline, enjoy it, and be friendly to your competitors - it aint MMA!

who just told a begginer to be aggressive?,

no dont listen toh im, strength dosent come from anger and aggression, always fight calmly and relaxed, never be aggressive it just will make you waste valuable energy, and lead to making mistakes because of agression, you dont have to be aggressive to be strong and skilled in a fight,

        peace

you wont learn more from 1 fight than you will in six months of training, please stop telling begginers things like this, you have martial arts all wrong man, if you learn mor ein a single fight than six months of training, then you are training wrong, in 6 months you can learn many many things, and you should be sparring, you can learn the same things while sparring, as you can in a fight, it depends if you sparr like a chump though, but yeah anyways bro you have to stop the anger and aggression while fighting, that leads to nothing productive, and you need to reconstruct your training routine if you arent learning anything in 6 months of actual training,

          peace.

Have you competed in BJJ tournements? Its nothing like sparring or training, its the real deal where you test your skills against guys you dont know or have never seen. You can learn alot and wont forget 1 second of the matches, going over every move and mistake you made and how you can correct it next time. You can learn alot about yourself, if you dont compete your not really testing yourself. I didnt mean more than 6 months just that its valuable..
How did you do original guy that posted this??????????

Gong Fu, despite you being proven wrong on your previous thread (ie. I will destroy your Gracie hero etc.) you still insist on telling everyone else they're wrong. This guy is competing in BJJ - have you EVER done a bjj comp? What experience (at 21 years old) have you exactly in BJJ? Don't you think that guys out there that have many years of BJJ competition experience may have some valid points?

I honestly don't think you get it? BJJ has no strikes, and the better you are, the more relaxed you are - that is true. But in a tournament setup you need to give each fight 100%, and commit to your submission attempts. And that is what I think omaplata is referring to.

I'll give you an example - a guy in my club who is dynamite when rolling had his first comp a couple of months ago. Because he didn't 'go for it' and ended up being too defensive, he lost his first fight and his months of preparation were wasted in five minutes. If he'd have attacked more, he'd have probably ended up with a medal, but ended up disappointed with his performance. I competed two weeks ago and ended up with two gold medals because I was continually aggressive (in a relaxed BJJ manner of course).

So, don't assume that everyone elses advice is worthless and tell them they've got 'martial arts all wrong' when some of them may be twice your age and have totally relevant experience.

so your saying you cant give it 100% calmly and relaxed. maybe you "experienced" Bjj guys learn some taiji, or is that to pussy for you experienced tough guys,

                            peace my advice was sound,

Seriously man, let the guys who know about this stuff comment on it and not you, it's just like me saying your entire method is wrong, you would argue with me then wouldn't you?

I believe aggression is an important part of grappling, if you can control it and channel it, it becomes an invaluable tool.
