Man Bites Python, Escapes Death
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A South African man bit his way to freedom after he was attacked by a python that tried to squeeze him to death, a local newspaper reported Wednesday.
The Star newspaper quoted Lucas Sibanda, 57, as saying the snake suddenly appeared from behind some shrubs while he was walking to work on a remote, narrow path he uses each day.
``I couldn't believe my eyes...I froze for almost 10 seconds, enough to let the snake tangle itself around me,'' Sibanda told the newspaper.
The python then began constricting him.
``I decided the only way to save myself from this monster was to bite it just below the head,'' he said. Sibanda sank his teeth into the reptile and kicked and punched until it released its grip.
Sibanda killed the snake with a stick, took it to his home near Pretoria and skinned it. The newspaper did not say when the incident took place.
Pythons, which suffocate their prey before swallowing it whole, have been known to kill and eat antelope species such as impala but attacks on humans are rare.
Well...maybe not proof...but it could have been...-ED
