Due to the fact that "grappling" tends to (on this forum and in some other places) imply submission grapplers, judoka, bjj guys, catch wrestlers ect...
I guess grappling by definition refers to a wide range of wrestling-sports, there are many such sports in many areas around th world, we could throw in the best sumo wrestlers or the best greek wrestlers or whatever.

I see.... grappling, worldwide, is more likely to be associated with the wrestling sports... but I can see why on this forum it isn't. I feel that due to the popularity world wide, and definitly in this country, that since way more people are wrestling than practicing BJJ, or Judo that there would probably be more talent in wrestling. I'm not trying to promote a style vs. style debate, but I just think it would be wrong to disregard amazing grapplers.Originally posted by danfaggellaDue to the fact that "grappling" tends to (on this forum and in some other places) imply submission grapplers, judoka, bjj guys, catch wrestlers ect...

True, Gable is certainly a grappler. I respect a grappler on certain criteria, and Gable is certainly great in my book. A great grappler has developed an inate feeling for body mechanics, and is completely natural when controlling the physical form of another indevidual.
One day I'll get there.... ><

I mentioned Jean Jaquez Machado.
I don't like the Gracies, you can't ask why everyone doesn't mention a certain someone. Everybody has his own taste in everything, some people like technique, some people like awesome strength and the other numerous things you can see in a fighter that would make you like him.
Why I made my choices?
I've seen their matches, their instructionals and I think they are pretty damn good.

What I'd like to add is I base my opinion on the way they finish their matches and the decisions they make in some positions like I like how Marcelo Garcia gets his opponents back and the use of his X-Guard, I like how Saulo escapes from the mount and his guard is quite consistant and lastly Machados submissions! And I've seen a guy do AMAZING triangles, he was the moderator of this forum (Ryan Hall), he's still a blue belt but I like watching his matches like the pros. And I'll post a few links right now.

Not to Dan Gable's level, you won't.

Lol, no offense, but stop doing that. Wrestlers are grapplers. And I'm not so sure Royce is up to Gable's level.Originally posted by danfaggellaI don't want to be a wrestler jubaji don't worry.
Any you're right, nobody will ever be a better boxer than Ali, a better wrestler than Gable, or a better grappler than Royce... right....
