I agree, jigmastermatt, and I'm sure it looked much worse from his angle. But I still wanna see a rematch.

I don't think there will be one, but the same outcome will result if it does.
Oh and most fights end like this, not all punches connect but it's obvious who has the upper hand and if it continues the guy who's getting pummeled will obviously get demolished!

"UFC has gone downhill and is getting worse, now you cant hit the guy in the back? WTF, no kicking when someones down, no elboes when standing. 5 minute rounds. im sick of it, it isnt even MMA anymore, its almost WWF. How can you submit someone in 5 minutes? ITs not easy and we dont see it that often, it makes guys have to stay on their feet and avoid the ground unless they totally own the guy on the ground. Pride is wayyyyy better far as Im concerned"
Holy phuck I think hell just froze over...I actually agree with HomaPlata

Gotta agree. caught a Pride show on TV late last nite (actually too late so I didn't finish it) and it looked like the kinda stuff that they used to have in UFC. But which one gets more airplay? Which one is doing more promo? Which one is on during prime time on a major tv channel and which one airs irregularly on some no-name station? Which one is now giving pre-fight on-camera face time to the fighters so they can talk smack (just like pro wrestling)? Which one's "cleaning up it's image and positioning itself for mass market consumption and more $$$?

Eventually, more of us "informed types" will lose interest, but the mass market will be eating it up...

Pride is coming to Vegas. I think Pride is preparing to challenge UFC for US MMA market dominance.

But given that UFC had to change alot of its rules as part of efforts to "legitimize" the sport in the eyes of many conversative lawmakers, do you guys think that Pride will have to do the same if it hopes to compete with the UFC?

Pride is bigger world wide, way bigger. it doesnt have to change anything, and it has the better fighters for the most part. The Pride fighters dont do the GNP nonsense for the reason that theres no cage to hold the guy against, so submissions and proper control of positons is more emphasized, a more pure sport with extra rules allowed.
What really is UFC when you think about? A 5 minute explosion, theres little room for error if youre a BJJ fighter or even a striker. and GNP is the best bet if you get the guy down, hold him against the cage (chickenshit in my eyes) and pound on him caveman style. Wow what a show

Points taken. But as far as the US market share goes, do you think Pride would be more popular? Furthermore, do you think Pride would have to revamp its rules in order to be legal in the States?

Not only was Ken on his hip(a sign of escape, as opposed to being flat on his back), but he also got up and showed no sign of a hurt fighter.

That being said, the ref had no way of knowing and he's gotta play it safe, even when it turns out he's wrong.

GnP happens in Pride too, it's a natural progression of fighting... and you're a dumbass.
