    Wrestling is awesome for fighting!
    Today, i had finished drinking some guys un-opende Red bull(i thought it was somebody else's that had just gone home) at this basketball court/park and out of nowhere this dude(the RedBull was his) tackled/jumped on me and started punching me pretty hard(about twice). I quickly reversed(like a sweep) him and pounded his face from top. The kid who attacked me was a like a 230 pound football player. And im a little over 140. Me and my friends bounced immediatly after that. The people he was playing football with were coming towards us too. The actual "fight" took only 5+ seconds. And it started on the ground.

      Wow, a day full of theft, assault, and simple battery.

            And the pictures above look alot like pictures of old pankration fighters...tough...but if you've ever read Plutarc on Sparta...there are obvious homoerotic overtones to any type of grappling...even the bloodsport which was done in the nude;

              My point is that...this;

              may have been associated just a wee-bit with this;

              For anyone who has a problem with the pictures (this isn't directed toward anyone, just anyone with a problem)
              ***These are ancient Pompeiian frescos...not porn, so if anyone has a problem with these images, go back to reading your bible, or bashing darwin, because they are legitamitely posted, and are NOT lude...might as well post olive leaves to your genitals while you're at it.***

                true the gladiators would fight nude with their bodies covered in olive oil. Shamrock vs Monson? Silvia vs Minotauro? NASTY. I guess wrestlers and their gay tights and funny ear things have at least one step up on the nude olive oil covered bodies, BAREly.

                    What I meant was grappling only matches look like two sweaty assholes groping each other trying to find a submission, and changing into one precarious and unsightly position after another. Yet another reason why I prefer STRIKING.

                      Can there be one thread on this forum that cannot turn into a flame war? This is about Martial Arts history not your personal sexual orientation, preference or opinions of other forum members...

                        See,. it looks like to gay men because THATS WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE. IF you had any idea how to grapple or what they were doing, (which isnt sexual unfortunetly for you), it would be more entertaining. But as it stands, you prefer mindless caveman style fighting. Which, for a gay man like yourself, id think youd like the grappling better, you can at least pretend you were out there and had tank abbot sitting on you face.

                              Really now? It started with me? This whole thread was leading up to this, with all the "nuthugging" comments, you left yourself right open...I'm sorry, I had to take the bait.

                                History

                                Ok guys...I had to add something to this to give us a break from all the gay jokes and comments. Ok back to what this thing started out as. On the first few pages of this traveler was talking about the ancient Greeks and how they fought then moved on to the Romans. I read a book several years back and can not remember the name of it at the moment but it talked about the different weapons the Centurians would carry in to battle. The book talked about how it was not uncommon for the Centurians to carry 3 different types of swords or blades into battle. They would have one sword that was long and narrow for when they would fight in the open and wanted the speed of lighter longer sword. Then they would have a sword that was shorter in length with a much wider blade for when they fighting in a more crowded area...not sure if crowded is the right word but instead of being on open field they would be say in the woods or between buildings and could not effectively use the longer sword. Then they would also carry a dagger for when they were fighting in close. It talked of how if in a battle they would move from one weapon to the other as they got deeper into battle and would sheath one weapon and go to the next. It was pretty cool how it said they would fight and use the different weapons. Also I have a Boxing Almanac which shows and tells the history of boxing going all the way back to the 1700's and it explained the different rules that were used. It was some really brutal stuff back then man. The had no gloves of course and they did not use a ring, instead they used a circle of people that would pick the fighters up once they fell and push them back out to the center so they could continue fighting. Aside from the obvious disadvantage you would have from being picked up and pushed back to the center of the circle where your opponent would be waiting for you, you also had to worry about who was picking you up. If it was someone rooting for your opponent or had bet money on your opponent then alot of the times while you were being picked up you be taking cheap shots to the kidneys and ribs in the process. These fights did not have a set number of rounds either. They were timed as they are today but sometimes these fights would go on for a hundred rounds. They have records of fights going on for 120 rounds!!!! These guys would stop take break, have a beer or something then get back up and go at it. Crazy!
                                Also just for the record...earlier in this thread some guy was talking about Bruce and his system of Jun Fan/JKD...he kept saying Bruce Li....It's Bruce Lee....not Bruce Li...Bruce Li was a guy that came along after Bruce died and was billed as the new Bruce Lee for the movies....Bruce Lee...just wanted to make that clear. Thansk guys keep up the good post but try to leave out the gay jokes and keep it focused on martial arts...
