As many of you know I fight, train kids and run a grappling club. we are hosting a charity tourney for a wrestler of ours who was crippled in an accident on his families sawmill this past spring,
Now please no stupid responses to this but I was talking to the kids who have been training with me (mostly wrestlers) and they would like to try & fight, so over the past few weeks I have been trying to come up with a grappling/kickboxing hybrid that would be safe for them.
so far I have made gloves out of hollowed out 12 0z boxing gloves ( a little buly but protective) & I have stablished a rudimentary rule system something along the lines of
* no knee or elbow strikes
* no striking on the ground
* no biting/groin strikes/ fish hooks ect.
* if a choke is secured the official gives 10 seconds then the fighters are broken up and the one in the choke is given a standing 8 count.
this is an ongoing search for saftey rules so I am attempting to come up with things to consider, so far all have been gym tested & seem safe, if you can think of anything I am missing please let me know!
If you have any youth interested in this type of thing let me know to, mabey we can start a circut or ongoing tournament or something.
currently my kids use 12 OZ gloves + 5 oz grappling gloves
12 Oz training headgear, shin and instep protectors & of course groin protectors & mouth peices but any additional info would be greatly appreciated!
