Well let me say from personal experience that belts don't mean anything. Technically I am still a white belt. And yet when I took BJJ lessons (gi) I tapped three blue belts in my first month. Then after two or so months I rolled for about six minutes with my third degree black belt instructor before locking him in a submission. Due to inexperience I let it go because I wasn't sure if he would have tapped and I didn't want to drain my energy and he escaped and tapped me. We never rolled after that. And he's no push over. I won't mention his name but if you googled it you would get a lot of hits. After that I have worked no-gi only for MMA. The point is that belts don't really matter.
