    Why disappointing?
Because these guys were great at what they did and not so great at explaining or teaching. They could not relate since they were at a higher level, trying to explain a move to someone who was not at the same level. For the most part, these guys are gifted athletes.
    Very, Very True.

If someone learnt an armbar age six it is hard for them to explain to an adult beginner how to do an armbar, unless they are a gifted teacher.

success in the ring dont equate to a god instructor

Having success in the ring, mma matches dont make you a good teacher. Teaching is an art in itself. BUT there is an important thing to remember IN ThAT a good teacher should have trained and being ranked (especially in BJJ) before authorized to teach. A teacher cant be a "teacher" unless they have something to teach and understand what they are teaching for that matter. It's so important because the world of Martial arts are saturated with bogus instructors/schools that say they can teach but dont have ligit training background that can be supported by a respected or real source. I do agree that the most important thing is that you have something to share and you are liked by your current private students. I would suggest you teach integrated grappling or some other name and instead tell others that your teachings hold techniques or the essense of BJJ. This way, you do not mistakenly mis-lead potential students or cause embarrasment when a real BJJ senior comes around your territory and then all your students question your honesty and integrity. In any case, keep growing, keep training and keep teaching!! much success to your teaching and best of luck in your association with the champion fighter that you will be working with.

Well I always make it a point that I say I teach Submission grappling.. Although I tell them That my moves are combination of my favorite techniques from Judo,BJJ and JJJ and techniques from Yaw-Yan.. My Coach in yaw-yan mostly got his moves from BJJ and from Sambo(From Gokor chivichyan)... but I am excited to because my friend who is a champion in Muay thai wants me to train him in grappling and vice versa... Maybe after he competes in A MMa competition, it may add up to my resume as a teacher...

congratulations in placing 1st and 2nd place in the NAGA competition.. at least you are proven competition wise.. I really admire Rodrigo Gracie and I also like his pose whenever I watch him on Pride..hehe..

Well egos will be there no matter what.. here in the Philippines there 3 BJJ groups but all of them dont like each other.. One group shot the leader of one group and there was a rumor that this leader was involved in striking another BJJ instructor with a knife because he doesnt like the atitude of this instructor... Politics here within groups are also present and I hate that..

well I hope to hear again from you... And I also hope you get your black belt too from Rodrigo...

thanks for the advise and you take care...
Thanks man hope everything turns out well for you....however i do not train with Rodrigo Gracie anymore because he moved to Cali.

Who do you train under now? Here in the Philippines, There are only 2 black belts... One black belt is under Kazeka Muniz and the other is Stephen Kamphuisa 2 or 3 time World masters Champion... But I dont train with them because I dont have that much money for now( 2Kids and expecting 1 this october)..

There is this champion kickboxer that I will train in grappling.. He owns a gym and he wanted me to start a grappling school there. I might use that as a stepping stone..

But have you tried teaching sap?
Yep - I taught JJJ for a while whilst also learning BJJ. Me & my training partner have been lucky enough to travel all over training BJJ, and now both teach BJJ in the UK. I find it very satisfying, and it also forces you to analyse the techniques thoroughly. In terms of a more seasoned grappler coming to the class & tapping you, well he may not be as good a teacher as you. If you have something to offer your students, teach them well, and genuinely care about them, then who could ask for more?

It's an interesting point, but don't forget that

                a) Because of the complexity of the art, a BJJ blue belt can have the same experience as a black belt in other arts (ie. 3 or 4 years).

                b) The standard of BJJ in a country varies depending on how long that country has been exposed to the art. You can walk around California or Rio & see a black belts academy on every street corner, but don't forget that it was different a few years ago. If the most qualified in the area is a blue belt, then he needs to instruct in order for the art to grow.

As for someone getting killed because of misinformation about a technique, well I think that might be a little over the top, but I've had world champion black belt instructors who haven't got a clue about teaching, and purple belts who were fantastic. I agree that in BJJ it's important for an instructor to be able to 'walk the walk', but a higher belt doesn't necessarily make a better instructor IMO.

I really envy guys that can teach BJJ... I would like to enroll in a BJJ run by Kamphuis-Machado team here but I just dont have funds for now. If you read my message that I have 2 kids and expecting 1 this october... But given a chance I will enroll in that school...

I take care of my students and always tell them to tap out if they need to because from tapping out they will learn... Well hope you could do a seminar here in the Philippines because they are a lot of groups waiting for a seminar and include me too....
