    Eh, look at BJJ takedowns this way... remember when you went to BJJ and got fucking owned by everyone.... you didnt know the techniques and you didnt understand the game.

    At least when I learned BJJ takedowns as opposed to Judo or wrestling takedowns it was very very different. You were doing the same throws/takedowns, double legs, single legs, etc... O Goshi, Osoto Gari, etc...

    COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WORLD.

    Think about hip movement on the ground, all the things you setup, your trying to sink the triangle, but you know in your head that if you do get the submission it will be five steps later, after you managed to sweep him and move to the armbar.

    Things like that, setups, everything, until your doing that standing your not doing takedowns well. Remember how eye opening going to BJJ for the first time and getting owned was, same thing will happen.

    You think you know how to single leg someone, try doing it to a Judoka, NOT EVEN A WRESTLER... a judoka, you will be fucking tossed in a second.

    It's hard to explain it.... like for instance Kuzushi, who knows what that is, brekaing the balance, when doing BJJ standup I thought man I know what tihs is... then I went to judo... okay NOW I know what it is.. than after a month of Judo I realized what it TRULY was... and then 2 more months later, I got a whole new spin on it. Is it part of the throw or not? Does it include the pull, maybe in 15 years I could tell you what it is, but its fucked. Dont underestimate GOOD judo, or GOOD wrestling. Even blue/brown belts you might be able to muscle/not get raped. But just wait until you go against someone with real skills, its scary because no matter what you do your fucked.

    Look at it this way... you can own everyone at your BJJ school in standup, and not have a clue about what its really like to grapple standing.

    Edit;

    Btw, I consider myself a BJJ guy first and foremost, consider that having read my post.

        since Judo is being discussed so much i'm gonna throw in my favorite takedown even though it's not from BJJ: Tomoe Nage! now as someone accurately said, favorite does not equal most effective. Tomoe Nage only really works when it's completely unexpected but it's fun and satisfying as hell when you get one off. Favorite takedown as far as what i have most success with is Uchi Mata.

          Thats your basic moronic BJJ approach to looking at Judo takedowns.

          I thought that too, I suppose you think Judo is just hip throws.

          Also, all of the hip throws dont necessarily give up your back, When YOU throw your shitty ippon seoi Nage, or your harai goshi you might get your back taken. But I can certainly tell you when I'm standing one second, and flying through the air the other second, taking someones back isnt a big concern.

          So basically, off these judo throws, the back will only be taken if the person attemptin the throw has very shitty technique. You mya get counter thrown, but simply "taking the back" wont happen when facing a good judoka, at least in my experience.

          Edit; Just thought I'd throw out something an significant ex-forum member was found of saying.

          "Dont judge the world by your own shitty standards"

          Its a James Keating quote. Think about that. And realize I'm not trying to be bias towards judo or wrestling, I'm just trying to open your eyes.

            Well he's correct, not a moron, but so are you (correct that is) , if you dont have solid techinque its wise not to give your back. In fact, if youre not a black belt in Judo i wouldnt suggest some of those throws in a BJJ or MMA arena, you WILL have your back taken and in a big hurry. If your fighting the average joe at a party, well by all means, toss the fucker across the room

                  Once you make Brown belt in Judo or JJJ, you hardly ever use hip throws any more. Mostly foot throws, sweeps, reaps and sacrafice throws.
