Hi I am new to wanting to learn martial arts, I am 15, 5 foot 7 and I weigh 110 lbs, I lift weights on mondays wednesdays and fridays and I do 50 crunches and 50 leg lifts almost everyday. So to say I am in pretty good shape, although when I'm not lifting weights or excersing I spend all my time on the computer which I kind of think makes me a little bit energy defficient and would like to spend my time probably practicing martial arts instead. So like I said I want to learn martial arts but I'm not sure what I should do or what is best for me, I have been thinking about Muay Thai but I'm kind of confused on what that actually is because I've seen some videos of people doing muay thai and it just seems like wrestling, or boxing to me, but I dont want to learn how to box or wrestle I want to learn how to do like actual martial arts if you know what I mean, so suggestions, tips, comments on what you think I should look into and some info on what muay thai really is would be helpful, thanks.

It depends what you are into...I hate to strike so I just train BJJ. Am I less well rounded? sure....but I dont care...I prefer to grapple.

If you want to learn how to fight then join an MMA place. They will teach you boxing, muay thai, wrestling and bjj.
If you want to learn for self-defense then do JKD, JJJ and FMA.
I think it is important to have a strong base in one and then learn some others. You shouldn't learn so many that you know a little of each. That is not good. Also I think it is important to try tradional as well as modern martial arts.

well beneloventdemon...
what martial art you choose is dependent on what you're looking to gain. people swear by their art, but the reality is that each one has something to offer.
are you looking for: stand-up striking or grappling? is this for fun, exercise, self-defense?
A lot of people will say something like kung fu is useless in a fight... but if you're not interested in self-defense it can be very fun
for self-defense i recommend a standup striking art to begin with (muy tai, tkd, kempo) and then supplement it with grappling art (jiu jitsu, judo, etc)... or do mma for a combination of both
if you're looking to mimic movies for fun... jet li studied wushu... if you're into those big flips and crazy acrobatic techniques then XMA style stuff is perfet
i've studied many arts, and i think they're all fun and interesting in their own ways. every martial art has something to offer... it all depends on what you want to learn and gain from it

Well yeah what I'm looking for is self-defence meaning that if I was attacked or someone got in a fight with me I would be able to beat him or take him down .etc. Also other than self-defense I also want to use it for fun and for practicing in spare time. And like the guy said above me with xma, that sounds like something I might like because I would like to learn how to do the backflips and handstands and that jazz too.
