So..... funny how the chips fall again....

    BJ LOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT...

    hahahaha....

people are saying "he's the better fighter he just gassed"

Thats like saying "where the better football team, but only if we play for one quarter.."

Conditioning bitches, probably the biggest part of fighting....

Hughes proved he's the better fighter, Penn's more talented, nope.. he just blew his load in the first two rounds... and then got beat by the better fighter.

Hughes proved hes in better shape., Penn didnt have enough time, that was clear, to prepare. Penn proved: hes way better standing WAY. Hes WAY better on the ground in every aspect WAY. He proved if he didnt gas, hed be the champ/. Hughes once again has Penn hand him the title

Yep. Penn rocked Hughes on the feet many times. Hughes had no choice but to shoot for half assed single legs in which BJ defended very well. And when Hughes managed to take BJ down in the second round, BJ took his back and worked for a sub. BUT MATT HUGHES ESCAPED as the bell rang. Im not taking anything away from Matt, he did a great job in surviving, defending, and out-lasting. The truth is, BJ Penn exploited Hughes for his weaknesses, and his strength, endurance.

And Jens Pulver got owned! Melvin is a power house. He immediatly Lateralled Gabe a few times when they clinched. Melivin did get mounted but got saved by the bell. Then KO'd him with a punched to the Solar plexus. That was some dim-mak shit right there.

And Dana White pretty much got on all fours, pulled down Matt's trunks and t-bagged him. "You are the greatest WW of all times, you truly are the best".
And GSP will beat Hughes for sure. He has very similar skills to Penn AND has great conditioning and strength. Though Canadian, a warrior nonetheless.

I don't like Hughes, I hope GSP destroys him.

Better shape or not, Hughes proved he's the better fighter. If it is his conditioning that makes him the better fighter, than thats what makes him the better fighter, but he IS the better fighter.

As far as not having enough time to prepare, BJ said he doesnt even train for his fights.. therefore... he had enough time to prepare, also he was supposed to fight Oct 10th, so its not like he wasnt preparing for that fight, plus 6 weeks is enough time for a training camp anyway.

Like I said, Penn looked so good because he blew his load so quickly. I can fight off the BJJ brown belts at my school using up all my energy but then after like a minute and 30 seconds of going balls to the walls I'm fucked. This is exactly what happened. Either way your going to lose, you just look like you had a chance at the start.

Btw, I think I will be rooting for GSP come his shot at Hughes, but tahts not the point, Penn lost to both of them.

God forbid he loses to diego (thats a joke... Oh god I hope Penn wouldnt lose to diego).

Stupid fucking BJ "I'll go up and beat Rich Franklin" what a joke.

Hughes, by his own admission, said that he would've lost all the rounds if Penn had better cardio.
I agree that cardio is a very important aspect of a fighter. And in this case, that's all Hughes had over Penn, which was enough to ultimately win this match.

Of course cardio is important. Duh, that is obvious, and the one with the title is the champ, thats pretty obvious too. But I think BJ Penn is a better fighter. I think if he had better cardio he would have won. You can condition for better cardio, not better instincts. Penn has better instincts. But facts are facts and Penn gassed, badly. Hughes gets way too much credit though. He fights fighters that are not too great, or in good condition. I mean, GSP had him until he made a stupid mistake. Penn had him until he gassed. Royce...is the man and would have beaten Hughes in his fighting prime. Who else? Is there anyone worth naming? I guess Hughes is a good fighter but I dont think hes a better fighter than a lot of guys. He has conditioning and does nothing but train so that mentality puts him on top. It is not so far away that hughes gets a few back to back losses. GSP forever!!!

Penn didnt 'fight off Hughes going balls to the wall" tool, Penn OWNED him in all aspects of the fight, ALL. Hughes was inferior at takedowns, inferior on the ground, was getting beat to all hell standing and was lucky not to get KO'd. You dont spank brown belts for 2 minutes then gas, in fact, you prolly dont last 1 minute with them.
In any case, Penn proved he is more skilled than Hughes, no debate about it. He got tired and couldnt continue. That happens to everyone. Hughes got very lucky Penn was out of shape. Otherwise, how would he have won? LOL

I think the fight demonstrated that Hughes's only advantage over Penn was his conditioning. Does that make him the "better" fighter? Yeah, probably.

                      B J

I don't know if u know this or not but B J had to move up in wieght & also was only giving 6 weeks to prepair for this fight. I havent met any one who can get in shape & be able to move up in wieght in six weeks & yes almost tap out matt hughes but the bell saved his ass. Any one who knows a thing or two about fighting the ufc is a little wack for having 5 minute rounds they should be 10 minute rounds like pride!

they should be 30 minute rounds. If it wasnt for the 5 minute round, Hughes would have been tapping like a lil tap dancing queen, again

Lol you fucking moron, I didnt say I spank brown belts, I just said I could hold them off, now BJ is closer in skill to Hughes, than I am to brown belts, so going balls to the wall he can win, but then he got tired, then he got mauled.

Penn only won those first two rounds because he went balls to the wall and couldnt finish. Ever wonder why eveyrone say penn always looks so good in the first round, or first two rounds.. its because he blows his load too early. How would Hughes have won if penn wasnt out of shape? The exact same way, eventually Hughes is gonna put you on your ass and maul you. Just took him longer because BJ was going balls to the wall.

How come if Royce lays on his back, waits, waits, waits until you get tired, then subs you, he is an excellent strategist... but when Hughes waits two rounds then fucking mauls you to death he sucks?

To the other guy who said Royce would have beat Hughes if Royce was in his prime, who are you fucking kidding... man... Royce was good, but not great... havent you ever seen the quote of I tihnk its Carlson, saying.. "Royce has never even won one title in brazil"... Royce has my respect, but to say that the Royce from 1993 would beat the Hughes from 2006, thats just a joke man.

To "Boots" BJ didnt have to move up weight , his last fight was at Welterweight, and the fight before that was at 185 you tool. He was given six weeks to prepare for Matt Hughes, but he had a fight on Oct 10th, he should have been preparing for that anyway, therefore that excuse doesnt fly. Also, BJ said he doesnt train hard, and that he doesnt need to. So hell he needed 6 hours notice and he would have been fine right?

Back in Hawaii - BJ Talks About Yesterday's Title Fight.
                            Posted by BJPenn.com Staff Writer

After just arriving back in Hawaii, BJ talks about the outcome of his tough UFC 63 title fight against Matt Hughes which took place yesterday evening at Arrowhead Pond in Anahiem CA.

                            Interviewer:
So BJ how are you doing?

                            BJ:
I just got back to Hawaii. I'm resting up, I have some injuries. Other than that I'm okay.

                            Interviewer:
So you just fought Matt Hughes. Could you walk us through the first round?

                            BJ:
I felt good, I was happy that I was defending Matt's takedowns. I could see that Matt improved his standup. I wish I tried some takedowns, but other than that I was happy with it.

                            Interviewer:
You say he improved his standup. How?

                            BJ:
He was dodging my punches well, and he had a good jab.

                            Interviewer:
What did you think of his takedowns?

                            BJ:
His takedowns were good and strong, exactly what I expected.

                            Interviewer:
Take us through the second round.

                            BJ:
I felt great going in, Matt started trying to take me down from my right leg, it's something I expected he might do. He got me down against the fence, but I was thinking about this position alot and I was ready. When he went for a big elbow, he missed and I capitalized and started going for his back. At this moment, when I was making the turn towards his back, I felt my ribs seperate on my right side. Although I didn't know the severity of the situation. I was thinking I have to finish him now because I knew something was wrong. Matt defended himself well and got through the round. When I got up to walk to my corner, I knew something was wrong, but I didn't want to talk about it with my corner. I wanted to be the champ. I wanted to keep fighting.

                            Interviewer:
                            What about round 3?

                            BJ:
I remember standing up out of the corner in pain. But I was thinking, "Earn your title this is what you have to do to get your belt back, fight through the pain". I knew the oppurtunity I had with getting this fight, especially after losing my last fight. I wasn't going to quit on the corner. I kept going because I honestly believed it was destiny. When me and Matt were boxing I felt like I couldn't breathe and had no mobility in my core. But I kept thinking something good is going to happen. When Matt started dominating the stand up I tried for a takedown. I had nothing and pulled to guard. I felt like I couldn't do anything on the ground. But I was still positive. Matt hit me in the ribs from half guard. The pain was so excruciating I had to use my far hand to block it. I would rather Matt pass my guard and punch my face the hit my ribs. When Matt was in his favorite position that he likes. I was still thinking I was going to win somehow. Big John gave me plenty of time. I practiced defending against that position with flexibility, but I had none with my core. Even when Big John stopped the fight, I was still so positive I thought I escaped. Congratulations to Matt, he is a great fighter. It's not his fault that that happened, he fought like the champion he is. He deserved the victory.

                            Interviewer:
So how are your ribs doing now?

                            BJ:
There just hurting, I couldn't sleep last night, I couldn't lay down, Every time I breathe it expands my ribcage and aggrevates my ribs.

                            Interviewer:
How do you think your conditioning was for this fight?

                            BJ:
I was training great. I trained 5 to 6 rounds a couple times a week. I was also doing explosive cardio and getting proper rest.

                            Interviewer:
Anything to say to your fans?

                            BJ:
Thanks for your support. I already got a lot of emails from my fans. Thank you very much.
Keep checking my site and I'll keep you posted.

                            Interviewer:
So what is next for BJ Penn?

                            BJ:
I've got to take care of my ribs, so I'm taking 2 months off, and my suspension for the TKO. I talked to Dana and he said to give him a call when I'm ready to fight. It takes a long time to prepare for these fights and I'm very disappointed I got injured like that. I gotta sit down for a couple weeks and clear my head and see where I am in fighting.

It's funny to see the sore losers (the ones who were crowing the loudest about their "sure thing" win - you know who you are) trying to warp reality so that their being wrong somehow proves them right. LOL

It certainly suggests that their own competitive experience is limited to watching old gracie videos over and over again.
