Yeah - because being born into a family with a dickload of money or being a good kareoke singer qualifies you to judge what makes a good martial art and judge the good training...

Not saying that it isn't a good martial art, just saying that those people aren't "experts" in teh field at all.

      Good Point!

Guess what! I have contacted the Kondokan since finding their website and asked what Zen is? Why it benefits Martial Arts Training? Can i get special discounted rates?

They replied today! Amidst a very long email i have drawn the following from it:-

They said that they cannot tell me what Zen is but they can show me in a way that i can experience it.

They said that training in martial arts is a pathway to a deeper understanding of zen and understanding zen is a deeper pathway to developing martial arts skill.

They said i should contact them further if i am interested and that discounted rates are available!

      I am sort of interested!

While I am all for ZEN, the price tag is steep!

I mean, my Mom participated in a retreat weekend to the tune of that, but that was for about three days, plus room and board...of course, it, too catrred to the more wealthy, lets face it, poor people have other things to worry about.

Anyhow, if anybody goes, please report back!

Haha, what the hell is Zen and whats it have to do with taking people down and submitting them? I dont know, I dont care enought o research it? Anyone with me? OH btw, I just did two two-hour sessions with Jimmy Pedro, World Champion and three time Olympian Judoka. Wow, what an awesome seminar. I learned like ten takedowns and five that are my style and that will definately be part of my game. Hes right outside Boston, MA so check it out, definately helped my takedown game.

I heard that Madonna trains in martial arts at the kondokan and someone from the English royal family. Are you from the royal family Sebastian?
If it's good enough for them I don't think it's gonna be horsesh1t!
Madonna trains there? That would be a spectacular recomendation if you wanted to learn to perform pop music but I don't see what it has to do with martial arts. We don't have any pop stars at my gym, but we do have a lot of successful boxers. I think that says something about my priorities.

I don't think Madonna would take regular classes (or show up at the school, for that matter)

Probably like the Hollywood fad exercises...the trainer comes to your house and cashes a handsome check...Budokan comes to mind...

I think if she wanted to learn a real martial art she'd have to. She'd need training partners to spar with, and that would mean going to the gym (or school if you prefer) putting on gear and taking her lumps with everyone else. No matter how much money or fame you have there's no way around that.

Maybe not if you want to learn how to fight, but it's probably a great place to meet girls

                      It is, Lu. It is.

PS - it is tempting to correct their form, but you gotta let 'em win if you want the digits...

Oh, from what I understand, the woman is not too good to get down to the nitty-gritty, just she has enough money to have it delivered to her house...a busload of sparring partners as well if need be.

That is the aspect of her I truely admire! She has drive! (Other than that, she is pretty aweful! )

Meh... I like some of her tunes, she's certainly a very talented entertainer. My point is that it doesn't matter how many pop stars or jet-setters a school has. That doesn't mean the coaches are good that just means they've attracted a flashy clientele. A famous singer can be taken advatage of by a charlatan just like anyone else. I'm not so star struck that I'd lose sight of what I'm trying to do. I chose my gym because we have professional fighters; obviously the coaches know what they're doing because the people they train are successful.
