  • Black belt!!

I love BJJ and train at least four times a week. I was wondering, does any one roughly know how long it would take to achieve a black belt (or brown for that matter)? Maybe you can answer this for me Rey!!

    average

Obviously, it varies by instructor and student, but you can figure 6-9 years to black-belt. This is assuming you are consistently training 3x/week or more the entire time. Knock 1-3 years off for brown belt.

Kyle is right when he said it depends on the instructor and the student too, specially on the student. But some Instructors are hard to move you up, like Carlson did to me, kept me as a blue belt for 5 years, then when HE thought I was ready he gave me the purple, then brown, black... I got my black belt after 12 years of training, and I entered ALL the competitions in Brazil and was winning it too. Carlson made me work hard for it. But you just have to give your best, always, and keep training hard, and you'll get there in no time. Just take it serious. Understand what you're learning and use it!

        Jeez,

12 years of training and competition to earn a black belt for Rey Diogo! Where does that leave the rest of us?!
Maybe a black belt when we are 65?

On the other hand, I just enjoy BJJ and feel that the black belt is so far away, if at all, that I dont spend much energy wondering about it.
