  • Sylvia retains belt!

Standup happened just as I thought it would, though the ground is a whole other deal, as is the takedowns....

I knew Monson would'nt do terrible on the feet(which all of you were denying... BLAH!), but damn, an americana, north south, triangle, TAKING HIS BACK, sidecontrol, THEN MOUNT... my God, if I had never known either of these men's fighting styles, I would have thought Sylvia the far more competent grappler... think it was him gassing, mental issues(due to tim's great takedown defense), and of course the weight advantage of 25 pounds(and probably way more with Sylvia being able to hydrate after weigh ins).

Very surprised though... indeed Monson had more chances to knock him out than submit him, and that to me is a shame. Hope to see Monson pick up the pieces, beat Mir, and AA(if he can even beat him... which after tonight, im not sure), and get that title shot back.

Still getting over it... it's been a rough hour or so lol.

WOW! All I got to say is WOW!

My respect for Sylvia has grown 10,000%

He did everything he needed to do against one of the best in the world. Monson is that good on the ground and this just showed how far Tim has really moved his game.

    TTT for Tim Sylvia

While obviously Tim won the fight, does anyone believe that in skills or technique that Tim is the better fighter.

I understand game plans, I understand he was just trying to win the fight anyway he could, but jabbing someone and running away for a round is just horrible.

Lol agreed. And there is no way a man a foot shorter with a foot less in reach should be able to stand there in front of you and even PRESS THE STRIKING... it's rediculous.

That being said, there should be no way on earth a world class grappler such as Monson should be defending 3 sub attempts and losing position like that... I was in awe of that.

Without sounding like I'm bashing monson, because believe me I'd rather he'd ripped tims arm off in the first round, Monson isnt THAT great on the ground.

Now I know hes won two ADCC's, but he's one those by stalling and top position, he isnt a great submission guy, he's a great control guy. I'm not 100% sure, but I dont think he won any of his Abu Dhabi finals matches via submission.

He was never in trouble on the ground, dont get me wrong, its just he's a great point grappler, not a great finisher, submission artist, etc...

Ugh! I thought I told you to stop saying anything remotely within the realm of agreement with one of my statements. Your agreement is meaningless child!

I don't think in the finals. But I've heard from people who have rolled with him he is a great sub guy, but he's said himself in ADCC he likes to play it safe more often than not. It's in MMA he goes all out for the subs.
