  • Best Gi Pants Value

    Hey guys, I'm in need of some gi pants. I have plenty of tops, I just need more pants.

    I'd like to get you guys opinons as to what the best pants are ...best construction, best fit, best value, etc.

    Here's what I'm looking at:

    HCK = $30 + $7 shipping

    HSU = $24 + ?? shipping
    HSU offers our own line of HSU Judo Uniforms, HSU Karate Uniforms, HSU Jiu Jitsu Uniforms, Belts, Training Equipment, and Custom Patches. We also carry Macho Products, and we are an authorized distributor for Adidas Judo Uniforms.

    Ouano = $20 + $6 shipping, 12oz., has Ouano logo.

    Padilla & Sons = $60!! + ?? shipping
    Choose a memorable domain name. Professional, friendly customer support. Start using your domain right away.

    Gracie Torrance = $39 + $7 shipping, have been on back order for 2 months

    Atama = $26 + ?? shipping

    Kagi = $25 + $6 shipping, 18 oz cotton

    The Ouanos seem to be the best value, but I didn't care for the logo on the pants and a pair I saw at a tournament seemed kinda rough.

    I used to have some Atama's and they seemed kinda puffy and big.

    I have a pair of HCK's but they don't seem to be worth the extra bucks.

    The Kagi's look good.

    Which do you guys prefer?!?!

    Is the Ouano logo stiched in, or a patch that can be removed?

      I bought a pair of blue Atama pants about 2 weeks ago and the total cost (including shipping) was $60.00. I think they're great! I was going to get HCK (the gi I like to wear) but I decided to save myself $14.00 instead.

        I would consider the Padilla and sons simply because they have the neoprene inserts in the knees. God knows I could use those!

          I've had krugans, atama, and HCK, and I rate them as:

          1. HCK
          2. atama
          3. krugans

          I have a new pair of HCK size 4 if you want a discount.

            The only gripe I don't like about HCK is that the single belt loop is not stitch in the center of the seam. I like Mizuno, Ouano and HSU pants better, that's with the price and quality preferrence i like.

                  John,
                  I've got the Gracie pants with the racing G. They are heavy & well made IMO. I like them a lot. Next time you're down yell at me and I'll bring a pair.

                    Thanks Hawk!

                    Well, my Ouano pants came only 3 days after I ordered them off the website.

                    Here's my review:

                    The fabric is nice and heavy. It's thicker than normal gi pants, but thinner than a pair of Levis, somewhere in between.

                    They don't have the Ouano logo on the leg cuffs like in the pictures but that's good for me because I didn't want them there.

                    I ordered the size A2. From waistband to leg cuff is 41". I wear a 30" inseam in Levis and they fit just about right now. I haven't washed them so they may shrink more than I would like. I'll just have to wait and see.

                    The waistband is overlapped and 2" wide, not 1/2" like most pants. The waist band has 3 ! rows of stitching instead of the usual 2 (or 1 on a Century).

                    The waistband has 2 double stitched draw-string "belt loops" rather than the usual 1.

                    The stitching throughout seems to be about 10 stitches per inch for the single stitched areas and 6 per inch where it's double stitched and the fabric is doubled or overlapped.

                    There are 2.5" x 2.5" reinforcement squares with double layer fabric at the leg cuffs and hips. The crotch has same size reinforcement square but it's a triple layer.

                    The drawstring is 1.5cm wide and single stitched same as most pants.

                    The side stitching down the legs is double layered and double stitched.

                    The front of the legs from mid-thigh to the leg cuffs is double layered with 6 !! rows of vertical double stitching on each leg!

                    The leg cuffs are 1" wide with 5 rows of stitching around the legs.

                    Overall I'd say it's got a hell of a lot more stitching and reinforcement than any pants I've ever seen and the fabric is thicker.

                    John Ouano is a purple belt and a very nice guy. I spoke with him on the phone last year and he was a very helpful and gave me lots of good information (and even a training tip or two).

                    These pants are damn good and get a definite thumbs up from me.

                      I should have listened to Howard Liu.

                      I just got a pair of HCK Gi pants. I ordered size 7 because they are supposed to shrink and I like my pants kind of loose. Howard recommended size 6, but I figured I knew better. I washed them in cold water, and let them drip dry. They didn't shrink as much as I figured. As I'm writing this they are now being washed in hot water. Hopefully this will make it shrnk some more. If not, I'll be ordering another pair in size 6. Since I don't know anyone that's a lot bigger than me, I guess I'll end up with some super durable pajama pants. Damn...

                      By the way, these are the highest quality Gi pants that I've ever bought(compared to Century and Pro-Force heavyweights). I wish they were available in black though.
