I think Rigan was something like 19 or 20 and hadn't had his black belt for long. Rickson was at his prime, most dominating stage in BJJ and the match was f*cking awesome with Rickson ultimately taking it.

Rigan and Rickson trained together all the time and are still friends today.

Rigan seemed to dominate early with the initial takedown, some great transitions and a few nice looking sub attempts but Rickson keeps moving and gets some nice sweeps himself. Rigan escapes everything until Rickson locks in side control and finishes the fight with what seems to be an Americana.

damn, great match. took me half the match to figure out who was who. hard to keep track of the score, they moved quite a bit and both of them really go for it.
