  • Idea for Training aide

has anyone ever come up with a design for a grappling dummy with "rebreakable limbs"??? Think about it...an anatomically correct training dummy made out of the same stuff that they use to make those super realistic sex dolls...with joints that pop when the right pressure and leverage is applied to them...that can then be "reset" to normal anatomical position.

Everything from small joints (wrists, ankles) to knees, elbows...and even spine cranks and neck breaks.

Think about it... how cool would that be. Not only learning to apply the moves on a joint that moves the right way, but being able to practice at full force to learn how to snap things quick for SD situations or combative applications.

    Can you dig it?

      Grappling dummies.

A grappling dummy like you describe sound worthless.
Strandling a dummy and punching is worthless as well.
Grappling is about constant movement and change.

The only useful grappling dummy concept I have seen are the throwing dummies used by Greco Roman wrestlers and all you really need is a heavy bag.

What about learning how to apply the correct amount of leverage to a joint in order to break it? Obviously it won't be training the same thing as grappling with a live partner...but it might be nice to know where to catch the joint and how to position your body for the maximum effect of finishing the technique...no getting there, just ending it.

Throwing a bag still isn't the same as trying to throw a resisting opponent either, now is it? What makes that concept more "functional" than this one...?

You would have to do a lot of testing to make a dummy approximate this when a live person can tell you.

You cannot learn grappling by youself so instead of paying money for a piece of junk you will have to store find youself a training partner.

The problem with practicing on a person is the throw is you will hurt them. Throwing a 180 lb Thai bag helps you develope you slam whithout using up a training partner. Just like punching a bag.

He is right that throwing a living person would be better however it would destroy that person’s health. There is no reason not to use the far superior human body to develop you submission technique. The live person can tell you how well your technique is working and even provide controlled resistance. There is no grappling dummy in the world that even comes close to a human body.

                1) you can throw living people...ever seen a judo or greco roman match?
                2) yeah, I never implied that this type of training aide could or would be able to replicate a living, resisting opponent...but;

                3) that's my point...something new and imaginative...proper human anatomy, sans the human part. Maybe I'll reframe the plan in a bit more macabre and morbid light... it's exactly why anatomy labs use human disection to learn surgical techniques. Imagine slapping an arm bar or a neck crank on a corpse...of course it's not the same as a resisting, living, fighting human being...but how man people will let you break their joints? I don't mean slap on a submission and wait until they tap, I mean go at the joint full force and really sink into it hard with the intention of breaking it quick, not waiting patiently for a tap. This type of tool would allow you to do that over and over again...

It can't replace training with a partner...and it isn't meant to...it's a supplemental training aid.

What are you talking about? You do not have to wait for them to tap as it is nearly instantaneous. You sound like a guy who has never gotten a legit submission so you think being rough and jerky will do it. It will not. Submissions come from tight control not sinking into it hard.

You obviously don't understand...I'm not talking about submissions...I said BREAK. Why do you have to come in here on a high horse, and talk down to everyone...I saw the shit you posted in the other thread...who do you think you are? Why do you find it necessary to be a snooty asshole?

I am sorry if I hurt you feelings. This thread was an appeal for opinions. If one does not want to hear opinions perhaps they should stick to circle jerks.
