passive guy made a post in an earlier thread about kung fu and karate not being arts - I do disagree with that statement as I am an instructor in Hung Gar Kung Fu, however many of the karate, tkd and kung fu schools out there are so fraudulent I would have to say that their systems are no longer arts or sports or anything - many of the schools out there are scams and thats all. Please excuse me for being blunt but I could pee on a wall and call it art I believe most of if not all of the people on this forum are not in any of these schools- this forum supports open mindness and many of those schools dont. I have trained and visited so many so called traditional TKD and karate schools where the students treat their instructor like he is the master of the universe or something and the entire program is designed to steal peoples money and give little kids a false sense of security with a meaningless black belt that the kids rich parents paid 2000 bucks for - how dare we call these kinds of schools art - I could go on and on about the problems that many of the TKD and karate schools have caused for the entire martial arts community -

according to the dictionary, an art is something that is learned through p[ractice or experience, or something that requires skill or knowledge. in the defense of the mcdojo, just because they don't necesarily teach the best tech or skills, doesn't mean that they're not teaching anything of value. just because they are not effective in teaching people to defend themselves doesn't mean that they are not passing on skills. based on this, i would conclude that what they teach is an art, but not an effective art, and not tought with respect or dedication to their art. later!

I am unfamiliar with this "peeing" technique, but I am beginning to gain interest in this style.

ALL martial arts contain too much superstition and hero-worship...

Just look at the height of the pedestal that Sak knocked the Gracies off of.

Fascistfury, you said just because they aren't learning to defend themselves doesn't meaning they aren't acquiring skills. The thing is, they THINK they ARE learning how to defend themselves. Any skills they DO gain are based upon a lie, a misconception, and probably a skewed motive in the first place. And anything based upon a lie is probably useless. So you have people throwing away their time and energy and deluding themselves.

Is it art? Sure, a stiff art, but an art. But again, it's based upon bullshit, therefore the practitioners are expressing bullshit.
