Nice clips Robby Park. I cant wait for this event. Lets see, we have:
Henderson vs Silva ( i bet Henderson takes it but i'd much rather see Silva knock him out)
Shogun vs Overeem (AO is on a losing streak kind of, Shogun will take it most likely by sub or TKO on the ground. If he decides to stand up and fight, Overeem will knock him out.)
Gomi vs Nick Diaz (Gomi by TKO hopefully, but i see this fight going to decision)
What other good fights are there on this card? Where are the Heavyweights?
Almost everything -- all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.
Im almost 100% sure that Dan will win by decision. Kinda like how he did against Belfort recently.
Call me crazy but i think Wanderlei may win with a sub off his back though.
You are crazy.
Seriously speaking, I could see it happening, just not very likely. Hendo seems to be a TOUGH guy to slap a submission on...only twice in his career and both times by Nogueira.
But I actually agree that if Hendo wins it will be by decision. I just can't see him actually knocking Silva out, and a sub from him isn't exactly high probability either.
But then some people think Silva's on a losing streak right now...
Gomi's fight is harder to call.
The performances against Aurelio showed a less motivated, more cautious guy than the old Gomi...but then he did KO Ishida in about a minute in his last fight. Not sure how he is mentally for this "non title" bout.
And then Nick Diaz is a pretty damn good fighter, whose losses in the UFC have been to the toughest guys there, and he's got to be going in knowing that if he wins he has a LOT to gain by getting a decisive victory on Gomi.
Shogun vs Overeem?
History says place your money on Shogun. Overeem's already lost once and he's coming off of two pretty bad losses.
BUT, when you look at the fight a little more closely, I think the odds certainly swing somewhat for Overeem. He now has a shorter fight(15 vs 20 min) and shorter rounds, which is going to help his notoriously bad gas tank. Then there's the fact that they're taking away Shogun's stomps/soccer kicks, and we all know how much he likes to use those.
I don't know if it evens things enough for Overeem to win, but it's a lot more even than records would indicate, IMO.
Other fights to watch:
Trigg vs Misaki...this one should be good, they're both tough aggressive bastards.
As for "other" fighters to watch on this card:
Kharitonov
Little Nog
Hansen
Their opponents aren't really all that much to write home about though.
Nakamura was gonna be on the card but he's out due to injury.
