  • MMA for Kids

I think this would be a great idea to replace the boring point-karate tournaments.
Basically it would be like Pancrase-style matches(Kicking, striking, takedowns, grappling & submissions) with lighter contact(I mean they are kids).

There would be more safety equipment(headgear, shin guards elbow&knee pads, etc.)

It would also be great for men & women who don't want to do full-contact but would still like to use their full range of skills.

    What do ya'll think?

    mma for kids

I think its a great idea - its something i thought about for a long time - i started teaching kids BJJ about 5 years ago and at the time my friends that where into karate and tkd told me it was a bad idea - that it was to hard and to dangerous for the kids - in 5 years teaching kids ive never had one injury and i have produced some excellent grapplers - lately i have been thinking a lot about finding some way to do NHB (kind of) with the kids - I have lots of ideas if anyone would want to hear any of them please email me or something -

Well rules I thought for kid would be this:
        #1 no hit to face
#2 Must wear grappler glove/ nhb glove
#3 Must wear foot and shin protector, jack-strap, mouth piece and a chest guard
#3 2-3 minutes rounds (draw if it go all the way)
#5 When a juji is lock bout automatickly is stop
        #6 no twisting of ankle
        #7 no slam from guard
#7 Pressue poin accepted but not to the ear
#8 if someone is not able to defend himself stop the bout
and the rest of the normal rules I think for kind it would be fun and would be safe what do you all think?

          rules for kids

ive used similar rules and they have worked well - i have the kids wear a BJJ gi so it looks better for the parents and promotes grappling - also my kids dont wear chest protectors cuz it limits ground work - pressure points never seem to tap anyone out they are just annoying so i dont use those at all - ive never really figured out what to do about strikes to the head - even in tkd the kids get to kick to the head but if we wanna add grappling the head protector gets in the way - i also use the bjj point system on the ground for kids
i give kids points for scoring kicks and punches and at the end of the match i add up points if there is no submission - i usually dont do these kind of rules with kids until they are like 9-10 years old and have had about a year of training
