I'm going out to Thailand in september, can anyone recommend somewhere too train bjj?
I've found chay yai gym in chaing mai, has anyone been?.

Another possibility (probably not as good as Chai Yai gym for BJJ)- Kru Pedro Villalobos is also in Chiang Mai his site is at http://ancientmuaythai.com He doesn't have a BJJ class per se, but I know that he's a blue belt. If you're into Muay Boran (Ong Bak style ) or Krabi-Krabong - he's the man to see in Chiang Mai.

If you do end up in Chiang Mai and are interested in Muay Thai, Chai Yai Gym is a decent place to train (especially because of the BTT connection), but I've got to plug Lanna http://lannamuaythai.com : I spent two months training there and it was an absolute blast. Do research about what others have said about the camp - it's not for everybody (read through the threads on the Muay Thai forum), but the manager of the place, Andy, is a great guy and he's cool to hang out with. Drop by for a visit, even if you don't end up training there, especially on a Friday/Saturday when there's a fight night. They usually go out as a group to the local stadium to support whichever fighter(s) is (are) competing. The same can be said of all the camps there, Chai Yai included, about fight nights - it's one of the best parts of the experience of training in Thailand.

Http://muaythailand.com is a great place to get information about training in Thailand. The webmaster there spent a lot of time at Lanna, so there is definitely a pro-Lanna bias there, but there's plenty of info about other camps all over Thailand.



If that doesn't get you excited about going, I don't know what will!

Pedro Lott from Brazilian Top Team in Rio, 3x BJJ champ of Rio and pro am submission wrestling champ of Brazil. Great guy, the classes are small so plenty of attention. Training twice a day. Also have a 90kg black belt from Rio visiting for a couple months soon. Some of the boys are fighting in Pan Asian Grappling Games in Manila in May.

A little note about Lanna:
Im sure plenty of people have enjoyed there training at Lanna but the fact that Andy wont allow any matches against Chay-yai Gym show a bit of a lack in confidence of his gyms level of training. The trainers at Chay-yai are head hunted from the best gyms in Bangkok and the ratio of students to trainers is high, it more technical, more attention and a proven record of success.
Rob (NL) fighting in Hong Kong 25th Andy in Cambodia vs Cambodian Champ in May and Melissa vs Australian WMC champ in Sydney in June, Thais are also fighting abroad and in Bangkok and Pattaya.
