An instructor named Wander Braga teaches a small Bjj class at the LA Boxing Club, where I train Muay Thai/Boxing during the week. Although my core grappling art is Shooto, i could definitely use some more extensive training in Bjj. Plus, it would be convenient since the class is taught at the same place i train anyway. But it is still extra money and if I really wanted to get great training for my money, i could go to the Machado school when i have more time. But I wouldn't have to go through the extra trouble if this instructor at the Boxing Club is good. I don't know much about him except that i hear he was trained by Rickson. Anyone know anything about him? How good is he? Any info is appreciated.

Wander Braga is under Jorge Pereira. He may have trained with Rickson at some time, but has been on the Periera team for at least the last 4 years. He finished 2nd in the '99 Pan Am's, loossing to Marcio Feitosa. He lost to Shaolin in the '99 Mundial quarter finals. Besides winning the BVt 6 tournament that was prviously mentioned, he also won the Circuito De lutas 3 tournament in '95. He seemed to be a very technicle fighter and JJ competitor, not sure why he hasn't fought NHB since the BVT. When he lost in sport JJ is was usually a very close match that he lost only by a point or 2.

Wander Braga just fought in the pro am. You should jump at the opportunity to train with a world class grappler.
If you are already training w/ a Muay Thai and a boxing coach, what better could you do than train w/ Wander to round out your skills.
Of course, being a good fighter does not make one a good teacher, but you should definately check him out. No disrespect to shooto, a good all around art, but it is far behind BJJ in the ground game.

Thanx for all the input guys. If he has all that fighting experience, it'd definitely be worth it to train with him. We'll see how it goes.
