  • BJJ reference material

Any chance to make this a sticky? I did a search but couldn't find any threads on this topic.

I've been slack the last year and a half not going to any kung fu classes, I got a bit bored of the lack of sparring. So now I want to start some BJJ. I've found a decent school close to home but I'm just lacking in motivation. In the past I've found that reading some instructional books motivates me to get back into training.

Can I have some recommendations for some good BJJ reference books or DVD's?

    thanks in advance.

I think that the Saulo Ribeiro DVDs are the best one.
The bases and positions are very well explained.
If I have to keep one DVD serie among my huge collection i'll keep this one (GI and NOGI série) !

For a book I suggest the Royler and Renzo book. It's the best for a beginner.

About motivation I suggest you to watch the "101 submissions" DVD from OnTheMat ;-)

If you're looking for free inspiration check out these sites for starters:

        http://www.lockflow.com/ - the techniques section
http://grapplearts.com/ - read through the "grappling tip of the week" archives
http://royharris.com/ - (you have to register to access all of the articles), he has more articles on http://www.onthemat.com/

Roy Harris' videos are also ideal for beginners.
