Does anyone have plans on how to make one?

First you get a good rugged gi to stuff. Then you walk the streets at midnight, and the first chump that decides to mug you is the lucky new employee to fill out your "dummy". If there's more than one guy, then you can make different sized dummies, or maybe sell the extras. After all, nothing can better imitate the feel of a human body besides...well a human body.

I've recently wondered about anyone making their own grappling dummy. I figured you would always have to buy one. I'm very new to the ground game, so I'll just sit back and watch the responses.

I'm considering making one as we speak. The plan I have in mind is to buy a large sized military type duffel bag. Stuff the bottom of it w/old jeans, etc. and tie it to roughly the size and shape of a neck and head. Then cut a "V' shape in the bottom part for legs/groin. (since I can't sew, or have access to industrial sewing machines) hole punch the insides of the legs, and lace the holes together to make legs. (this will give a nice, tight leg grip for guard and half guard, and the solid groin area more realistic for over the leg guard passes.). Then tie the ends of the "legs" to make ankles, and duct tape the ends and cover them w/black socks. for the arms, i'm going to get one of those foam pool toys (long stick, don't know what you call them) and feed it through. These will be flexible and bendable for armbars, kimura, etc. (Tape around where the wrists and elbow would be for reference points. Finally, put a good judo gi top on it, belt, and away you go. I will try to build mine this weekend, or next week, so i'll let you know how it turns out.

Otherwise you can buy them online from Century. I think they're like $300. (something like 5'4" and 95 pounds) or roughly the size of Patterson. (just kidding, Patty!)

OK, disregard my previous post! I went to a local "army surplus" type store, looking for the duffle bag. What I found instead was perfect. It's an old MOP gear (sp?) type suit. All one peice, full, life size. The cuffs on the arms, legs, and head all close tight, so you can stuff it. I'm going to put those styrofoam pool toys for arms and legs. The suit cost me under $20.

I wonder how well rolled-up scrap pieces of carpet would work for arms,legs&neck?

I think rolled up carpet would work, BUT; the pool toys are completely flexible, (for armlocks; americana; kimura; etc.) and they are cheap. Plus, you can bend them to practice guard/half guard, etc.

About 30 minutes after I posted that last thread, I found an old coveralls with a few small rips on the arm only. Anyone have some stories on how their dummies came out? What did you guys put inside?

Hey Chad.....

Rags(old jeans,T-shirts&towels)or old carpet(don't use molded carpet-eeeww!)packed in real tight make good stuffing.

I am now thinking about adding velcro on the arms/hands & ankles to practice escaping headlocks/chokes & passing the guard.
