I mean, no doubt, I would forcefully and aggressively defend myself against a women under certain circumstances(she's got a weapon, you can't restrain her, ect.). But due to physics, it's not good policy to strike a women(even if you feel it's ok morally). The physics lead to the legal side of things. And now you're screwed.

A women, with height and weight being equal with a man(which is not usually the case ANYWAYS), will not have the bone density of the man(meaning strikes are more devestating), and will not have the strength(less muscle mass, more fat), and therefore the power that a man will possess. This makes for a very lopsided altercation.

However, I think it's just wrong to hit a women, anyways. Especially when you smash her pumpkin, and she only gives you what's coming to you.

In that situation, had I been that dickhead, I would have restrained her. Who knows though, she mighta wupped his ass.
