  • Grappling Dummies

Everywhere I look these things cost hundreds of dollars. So, I found a website where people have built their own. I was wondering if anyone in the forum has done this before or what they think of a homemade dummy.

heres a link to a good site with multiple variations of dummies

Yeah I didn't want to shell out $399 on a grappling bag, so I looked to put one together myself. I only got so far, it was about 5 10 and 220lbs, it looked a bit of a mess with bits hanging out in all the wrong places. But then, I just looked over at my exgirlfriend and thought; why re-invent the wheel?

We had one of those grappling dummies at the gym. No one ever used it. It would never work for me because I don't have enough of an imagination to make it work. The only dummy I want involved in my grappling is me.

Try a normal heavy bag. A little imagination and it'll work the same.

Is 220 about the normal weight for one?

120's usually good. That'll get plenty heavy when you're tossing it around.

Try tying a belt on the heavy bag and pull the belt as when you're doing straight armbars. I found this to be rather helpful. The belt is also useful as grips when practicing hip throws.

They're especially useful for Greco Roman wrestling throwing drills.

I have my grappling dummy for sale if anyones interested,

Its a I&I Sports -->CUSTOM<-- Bubba II with gi. About 5'7" 50 lbs
Barely used in last 2 years, in fact the arms are stiff as ever as its almost never used.

I paid $900 or so with delivery. Still have receipts. If anyones interested leave me a note:

                      adrian.dsouza@sympatico.ca

I'll be willing to let this dummy "like new" go for a very tempting price.

The "great prices" depend on the size you are looking for.

The $85 ones are kids toys.

However, a couple of nice things about the products are that:
                          1. They're leather, very tough leather
                          2. They come in free-style or Greco style (no legs)
                          3. You can get them in sizes ranging from about 60 pounds up to 250 pounds

I know I've mentioned this before, but if you are willing to shell out the big bucks an ADAM takedown machine is an excellent training tool!
