does anyone know of any good bjj schools in the cincinnati area? i heard there was a carlson gracie school. is carlson gracie a good school to learn from...someone said he lacked technique. thanks for any and all replies! i am interested in getting into bjj this summer and am basically looking for some direction. i have no idea what im doing. also would i need to buy anything to get in to it? i am not exactly rich and could probably barely cover monthly dues. i have a judogi can i use that? also, would learning from tapes be possible? thanks again!

I don't know about about the cinncinati area, but I do know that Carlson Gracie schools definetly DO NOT lack technique. (there's a reason why it's called the champion factory in Brazil).I wouldn't advise just learning from tapes because for me personally, I learn most from sparring with the other students.

I may be wrong on this, but the last I heard was Carlson Jr was doing periodic seminars for a school in Cincinatti. If this is the same school you are referring to, I'm pretty sure it's not an official Carlson Gracie school but rather an affiliate. I would definitely check it out.
Who told you they lack technique?

"Alkidoka, I train in Cincinnati with Carlson Jr. He's easy to work with unlike a TON of other people I've heard about. So stop watching videos, drop your girly "should I go check things out" attitude, and roll like a man. If you wanna die, just keep on doing what you are doing. Throw the useless videos that you have into the nearest trash can and train. It's on Reading Road, I-75 Galbraith exit. And how could the place possibly lack technique if I am there? Stop listening to your gay friends because, apparently, they will tell you anything."

If you are on a budget you may want to go to Cinti GJJ instead:

Carlson was charging $150 a month when I was down there (or $20 a class). Plus I understand he is not there alot. Cinti GJJ charges $35 a month or $5 a class, a ton of blue belts there and it is great if you are a white or blue. You will learn alot at either place but these are the only places in Cinti that I know of.
