  • Who's getting in to street fights and why?

I'm always kind of suprised at the number of street fights people seem to get into on these forums. (Knock on wood) I have not been in a street fight since I was about 13. After high school, I never even came close. Over the years, I suppose I've put up with some rude behavior. But I don't really think street fighting is the answer.

For those of you who are getting in street fights, are you putting your self in harms way? How does this happen?

      fights can happen

      Hi,
You guys are right for mature adults fighting should be very very rare, if it ever happens at all. But let's face it sometimes it can happen. I hate to get on here an constantly harp about the shi* nieghbourhood I live in so I won't, although your surroundings will increase your chances for violence, but even then you can avoid it most of the time, if your careful.

But here I want to make the point that even the suburban guy may have to get into it with someone at some point in his life.

      example:

I was at a pro football game a couple years ago and this guy and his family were there (I was about 5 rows above them) and they happened to have a couple drunk idiots just behind them. They were spilling beer on the guy's wife and just overall acting very obnoxious. He finally told them to please stop doing this at which point they got even more obnoxious, purposely spilling beer on them and calling his wife a bitch and other names etc.

This guy was maybe in his 40's and by his look I would say he was probably a very successful professional etc. For some reason security did not do anything about this for quite a while even though people were trying to get security to kick these drunk pric*s out. Anyway this guy put up with this abuse toward his family for about 10 minutes before it was dealt with by security.

Why didn't He do anything to defend his family? Probably because we are all often taught that no matter WHAT violence should never be an option. The fact is we are surrounded by civilized people 99% of the time (in most neighbourhoods, in mine it is about 40% of the time) but every once in a while (maybe once in a lifetime for the upper class guy) we are confronted by a situation in which violence is the only solution, whether we like it or not, and at that point we often have to sink to the same level as the animals we are dealing with (sad but true).

This guy was probably a terrific father and provider for his family, but I'll bet you anything that on some level his wife lost some faith in him. We are Primates after all. He may be a great provider etc., but on some level she is probably thinking that "when the chips were really down he didn't protect his family and I".

I not blaming the poor guy because he was probably just so shocked by the whole thing that he just froze, but I'm just trying to say that ANYBODY can be put in a situation in which they may have to throw a punch, it can happen. These events should be very rare but every man should be ready to protect his family because these things can happen.

Does anybody agree with me, or is it just my Fighting Irish blood?

I was very disturbed by this whole thing, at this game, and was pissed off that security did not handle this situation any better, but that is life, if you are expecting anyone else (including police) to protect your family, your living in a dream, it ain't going to happen, maybe they'll come after the fact to clean up the blood and bodies and do a little detective work, but that's about it. It is up to YOU to protect you and yours in this country and that is just the way it is.

I could come up with many examples like this all day(this is just one that includes an upper class guy).

Another example that everyone knows about:

The situation that happened in Central Park last summer (during the Porto Rico parade, or whatever the hell that was, them grabbing innocent women etc). All over the country people freaked out about that, when they saw that on video tape. WAKE UP PEOPLE that kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME. But it does not become real to Suburbia until they see it for themselves on tape.

So my only point is - YES fights should be very rare but for me personally I will become violent if I'm forced to be, but naturally I will avoid that situation if at ALL possible.

Still there are some people in their fenced off, private security neighbourhoods, who will say that violence is never necessary, and that is fine for them I just wish many of them (nobody here) would just not judge me for my opinions when they refuse to walk a mile in my shoes.

e.x. - I was just wishing the other day that Barbara Streisand (spelling?) had to live in a high crime area before she could run her mouth about guns, etc.

-anyway I not comparing anyone here to scum a low as Barbara Streisand so I'll end my rant here.

If the guy at the ballgame had chosen to fight, it sounds like he would have been fgihting a group of guys all by himself. If that is the case, he would have lost.
In a better society, the whole crowd would have savagely beaten those drunken assholes into the emergency room.
I do have a good fight story to tell that I witnessed recently. I was at a small bar in my home town with a friend called "Bar Rag" (his real name is Doug except everyone calls him Bar Rag) and a brother of mine named John Peter. Well, this big fat guy (300 pounds or so) named Bubba Chuck was being a real loud mouthed as*******. There was a comedian on stage (only time I've ever heard of a comedian doing a bar stint in that little town), and people were having a hard time hearing him. This old farmer about 80 years old politely asked the guy to quiet down. The guy basically told him to go f** himself. The old guy was humiliated and he happened to be there with his wife. He went and got his wife and they left. Well, for some reason my friend walks up the fat guy and invites him outside. I later found out that my friend used to work for the old guy and liked him as a person.
Now, my friend is nowhere near as tough as he thinks he is. I was curious as to what would happen. They squared off in the parking lot. The fight started in a relatviely ready-ready-go type manner in mutual acknowledgement between the participants. Surprisingly, my friend took the fat bastard down with a sloppy ass headlock. Here's another bizarre thing. The fat guy didn't even have the presence of mind to take his glasses off before the fight?!? My friend punched him in the face a lot of times and the guy got all bloody. The guy started screaming that he had glass in his eye, except Bar Rag just kept punching him and there was blood everywhere. I still don't know/give a shit if there was legitimacy to glass being in the guys eye or not. The guy's friends went towards the fight, so me and my brother started fighting with them. Mine and John Peter's fights got broken up before much happened. After all hell broke loose, we all left and Bar Rag never got to finish giving the fat guy the beating he deserved. We met up with another borther of mine named John Paul along with a cousin of mine named Koonsie and we decidied to drop Bar Rag off at his parent's house to cool down for a while. We loaded up the back end of the pickup with a coulpe of cases of beer and grabbed a couple of shotguns for some shooting out in the country. Well, we picked up another brother of mine named John Christopher and hit the gravel roads way out of town and were having fun shooting and drinking while we idled down the road. After a while, we headed back to Bar Rag's parent's house to see if Bar Rag wanted to join us. Well, Bubba Chuck and his friends had come out there to pick a fight with Bar Rag. We all got out of the truck(without the shotguns of course). Bubba Chuck claimed that Bar Rag had fought him cheap. Bubba Chuck was caked with blood and bruised up, except he said he wanted to fight him again, so they squared off. Bar Rag took him down with the same sloppy headlock and punched him in the face a whole bunch of times. This time, we let Bubba Chuck's friends break it up after Bubba Chuck had been beaten up because the fight was taking place at Bar Rag's parent's house even though it was out in the country.

I have a cool fight story,

I was shopping with my mother. When we came outside the store there where some tough guys calling my mother names like "fat bi*tch" and that sort of things.

I told my mother to go home, i went to. And said" i'm going to a friends house. I fent up to the store and asked the tough guy:

What did you say to my mother?
ohh that ugly old bitch, i said nuthing. (friends laughing)

I headbutted him in the face kneed his face and threw him down, and kicked the sheet out him.

He never badmouthed my mother again

            Good post Mik36.

Sometimes some people just need a good ass whipping.

If more people knew that a good ass whupping might be a consequence of their rude behavior, these people would behave better.

Look at the way some people drive. Cutting people off. Tailgating. Driving aggressively. If you drove like that "back in the day" in a small town, someone would walk up to your car and pop you in the mouth a few times.

Or, they would call your family and tell them what a dick you were being. You'd get an ass whipping when you got home by your father.

Today people feel there are no consequences for their behavior. Thus, they behave badly.

Think about all the things there USED TO be bad consequenses for.

            - get fired from your job: old, be out of work and hungry. now, walk across the street

            - impregnate your girl: old, marry the ditz or pay for an abortion. now, let the government pay the medical bills and upkeep on the kid.

            - get drunk and obnoxious in public: old, receive a righteous ass-whipping. now, get tossed out or pay a small fine.

            - bugger a 7-year old boy: old, get strung up from a tree by your neighbors. now, get counseling, free meals, and cable TV for 3 years.

            THAT is Social Justice.

                  Mik36, I agree with you.

There are times where non-violence can become simply accessory to crime, and failure to render aid. That's just my opinion. I'm not saying everyone has to be a superhero...but most people seem indifferent in this world. They will stare wide-eyed and not help, even if helping means trying to get help.

There are a lot of people who will help though, so I think we're not all doomed just yet...

I just HATE people who drive like that.

I totally pisses me off when I'm about to go through a light that just turned green with my two daughters (9 & 12) in the car and some asshole runs the light endangering ALL our lives.

I've spent like $20K each on those kids so far in food, medical, clothes, gas running them to school, etc. I don't want some idiot wiping out my $40K investment simply because he's too stupid to get to work on time.

The other day some jackass was like 2 feet behind the wheel of my motorcycle the whole way down the street.

As we pulled up to a light (at about 10mph) I slammed on my brakes hoping he'd run into me. (I need a new bike).

He managed to avoid hitting me but was blocked in at the light so I put my bike on the kickstand and walked back to his car and asked him to pull into a nearby parking lot because there was something I needed to discuss with him.

He freaked out and jumped the curb with his damned Celica and went through a ditch to get around my bike and shot off down the highway.

I'm not 87. I just have a very low tolerance for people who enjoy using their cars offensively for their own self-gratification.

Yeah, people carry guns. But the odds that I would get shot are actually very, very low, regardless of what the boob tube tells everyone.

I've been in a few street fights.I used to have a real bad temper.

Once me and a couple of friends were shooting pool in the back of a convience store and some moron gets pissed because I kept beating him.He then took a swing and I just kinda stepped back and slammed a front kick in his stomach,he then tried to rush me,so I just took him to the ground and choked him out.The guy was just some regular punk who knew nothing whatsoever,it was easy taking him down and choking him out.

Another time I got in a fight was a couple of years ago I was about 18 at the time,I was driving down main street at about 11:00 at night and I see some people waving at us while we were driving by.So I turned the car around becuse I thought it may be someone I knew. When I pulled up and approached the guy he started to talk trash, the whole time I was thinking WTF?!?.Well,I just said Whatever dude, and the guy started getting pissed off.He had a friend with him and what I guess was his girlfriend also. I told him to bring it if he thought he was such a bad ass.So he did,I threw a low round house Kicks to his leg and the punk couldn't even take one of them.He then charges at me and I let him take a couple shots,he hit like a girl so I decided to go ahead and finish the fight.I just took him down via sweep and punched him a couple of times and then put him in a rear naked choke. After I let go of the choke the he was kinda dazed but then he jumped up and took off running across the street crying like a little girl the idiot almost got hit by a car when he tried to run away.I just left after that,I went back by the place he worked at(a local pool hall) and talked to Tabitha the owner who I've known for a while and she decided to fire him for not doing his damn job,not only did he get a royal ass kicking but he got fired too.

                            Hi,
I agree with John Bennett on the whole driving thing and I'm only 24 (not 84). I think alot of guys my age and younger don't fully realize what the consequences of driving like a maniac can be (if you were only killing yourself, then that would be your right, but alot of the time your not). This probably comes back to John Bennett's other point about there not being appropriate consequences for actions anymore.

That book you mentioned is probably on Amazon right? Actually forget it I'm already a HUGE right to arm supporter, me reading that book would be like preaching to the converted.

Shit happens, I got a lot of stories and I agree with the Irishmans thread, poor guy at the ballgame, I woulda stood up for him. I've had to backdown once to three gangbanger types at a new years party at a hotel, and everyone else at some point will have someon start shit for no reason, it happens. Also two guys can't always get in the last word.
