What is money, though? When you get down to it, it's just the most successful pyramid scheme of all time.

Just imagine what you would do with your life if you had infinite money, because then at least it removes all that bullshit from the equation.

If you drove a new Ferrari, lived in a new mansion, fucked a new super model, and ate the best food on the planet every single day for the rest of your life...would you really be happy?

It's not about hunting and gathering or surviving, it's about having goals and achieving them. It's about having a gradient that you move back and forth between.

In todays world you need to make your own goals, because everything is pretty much provided for you unless you're REALLY bad off.

      i agree.

Even with the massive hike in interest rates, housing costs, food costs etc that have occured over the past few years where I live, I worked out the other day that I really only need to work ~20hrs per week to live a modest but comfortable life. How great is that!

      By modest comfortable I mean:
good food (all from the local farmers market (its cheaper) plus some extra stuff from the supermarket (ie. soap, toothpaste, laundry powder etc).

      Money to cover training

      All utility bills and mortgage

Play money for cinemas & cheap eats out

Petrol or bus money (we share 1 car)

& a bit of saving for emergencies or holidays

So now I'm unsure whether to keep my 9-5er or just look for something more flexible so I can have more time to train or whatever.

Thankfully I live in such as sweet country where this is possible, but even still, most people seem hooked on the rat race and cramming their houses full of flat screens, surround sounds, new cars etc. My wife and I were joking the other day that if someone broke into our humble little home they would probably walk out scratching their heads cause there's nothing worth stealing. Our TV, DVD player & computer are both about 10 years old & our washer and fridge cost $50 each second hand!

We've never been happier so we don;t have any complaints. I think as long as your paying your own way and not relying on hand outs then each to their own. Consumerism sure can be tempting though

Well I think that we all are seated in front of our computers because out there people mind their own bussiness and nobody wants to listen to other people. In families too because of television folks don't talk anymore and sometimes we are explaining our problems to somebody living at the other side of the planet and we don't even talk to our neighbours.
In the past, people spent a lot of time working and now they have more free time but sometimes they do not know what to do with it.
Television and computers are taking the places of real people and sometimes it's scaring.
