  • Open Mat In Miami On Saturday, April 14!

Hello, my name is Marcos Avellan. My brother David and I teach NHB and grappling out of Lee's Tae Kwon Do in Miami. My program is pretty young, about 5 months old. Well I just got the school fixed up with brand new zebra mats. I want to break them in a little with an Open Mat! Its going to be from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. This is kind of a grand opening for my program. Up to this point, I have been only teaching a small group. But now that I have the school setup nicely, I want to expand my program.
There is going to be free pizza, drinks, UFCs and Pride on TV there. Grapplers of all styles are welcome. If you only know wrestling, feel free to come down and wrestle. If you are interested in grappling but don't know anything about it, feel free to come down and check it out. You can watch and ask questions. By coming down to check it out, you can get one week of free classes.

The address of the school is:

    Lee's Tae Kwon Do
    12120 SW 117 CT Miami
    FL 33176

The school is easy to get to, here are the directions:

Take the Turnpike and get off at SW 120 ST
    Then turn towards 117 AVE
At 117 AVE, turn towards 122 ST.
As you approach 122 ST., you will see a McDonald's Restuarant
Right After the McDonald's is 122 ST
    Turn into 122 ST
Straight ahead you will see Lee's Tae Kwon Do in the warehouses.

If you need more specific directions, feel free to call the school at 305-255-4811 . You can also check out the school website at www.jiujitsu.cc

Thanks and hope to see you there!

One more thing, if you are from Florida, check out www.floridamartialarts.com . Thanks.

No problem. I've been wrestling for close to 5 years now and have been training in martial arts for over 3 years. I know how to box, kick, and strike on the ground. My takedowns are probably my best asset. However, I'm not a ground-and-pound wrestler, I have always believed in having a balanced fighting style. I probably train about 55% grappling and 45% striking - I do favor grappling a little bit more. My brother has the same background as me. I'm 8-1 in MMA fights, losing only my first fight. My brother is 9-4. My students that have been with me for the past 5 months have also done great. My kid student, Enrico, took first in the last NAGA in Orlando - winning all three matches by submission under 2:00 . My girlfriend took first in the women's division. I also had three other students place.

Qkfx, if you are in town, drop by and check out the open mat. There will be some good guys there. Some guys from Mike Cardoso's school should be there, along with some talented college wrestlers, and others.

Also, my brother will be fighting on July 14 in the FFC (my promotion) and I will be competing on May 5th in the Absolute Division of the FFC Submission Grappling Open. For more info, check out www.floridamartialarts.com . The left menu on the page is the fighting menu, the right menu is the grappling menu.

Let me know what you think. If you are from Miami, come and at least check out one of the shows.
