for an old guy who keeps crying about attitude and class, you sure are self conscious...like a lady.

Hahahahaha....
Yup. The concepts that Helio takes credit for came from Kano... It's safe to say he took what was useful and made it his own.

Well, from a quick look at the technique pages on this siteOriginally posted by Tant01 View PostActually buddy, BJJ, GJJ, GBJ is all "JUDO"
Some judo schools, as you point out, emphasize newaza a lot more than others. Don't buy it for the name or get confused about what's what. Enjoy your judo even if it's been uprooted and transplanted.
It's all good...
If you want to know the Japanese names for HIP throws and Reaping throws I'm sure you can find them....
See; JUDO.
The Gokyo of Kodokan Judo: Videos of 40 Throwing Techniques
I think we've been training Uki-goshi, Osoto-gari, O-goshi, and Seoi-nage. I'm a judoka and I didn't even know it!
And I take your point that the ground grappling techniques we are doing are also Judo, but I haven't yet started looking up the Japanese names for these (except for the "kimura" ... or is that an "ude garami"?).
Maybe they ought to replace the names "Judo" and "BJJ" with "Original Judo" and "Judo Concepts": I'm sure THAT would make everything clear once and for all [grin]. Although we'd have to figure out which would be which, as I understand that BJJ derives from an older style of Judo than that taught at most Judo schools today.

That's a coincidence, I have two BAs and an MA. Pretty similar!
I wonder about Grandmaster Thumb Lock there!

yea i know, nothing works on you. i heard you dodged a bullet once or twice too.Originally posted by eXcessiveForceJust for giggles:
I can assure you that you wouldn't get a thumb lock on me, because I simply would be grabbing you. I'd be too busy trying to knock you out. I'd prefer to be striking you than holding you.

see, here's your problem. you don't know what this thumb lock, transitioning into a wrist lock then elbow lock is. it's all done in one motion and w/i about 1 second. the Gracies teaches this, you just don't know about it.Originally posted by eXcessiveForceIt does not escape me, I simply reject your premise that your going to get the thumb lock to begin with, and even if you do, it's not going to keep them from beating you long before you get to the wrist lock, or elbow.
Um, okay, what ever you say, Hmmm my first experience with the gracies was in 1995. So yeah you are right, i've probably never seen a transition from a thumb lock to a wrist lock, to an elbow. Or when I was trained for Pressure Point Control tactics as an instructor, or Joint Manipulation. Or Spontaneous knife defense.
If you don't understand intent or that a move that requires them to do something before it can be initiated is a low priority move there's not much I can do over the internet to educate you.
it's full resistance during sparring all the time. and the opponent knows the technique and that it's coming so that makes it even more difficult than a real situation vs. real badasses such as yourself who are impervious to pain.
Now your being silly. Guess you never saw a gracie fight after having his shoulder or elbow blown out before huh. If pain was so great, Royce would have taken out Kimo in UFC 3 before Kimo trashed him. But that's not what happened.
that must suck. hope you get out of prison soon.
wow. let's try it again. imagine that we're in the real world and not your Jean-Claude Van Dame meets the Incredible Hulk world where the threshold of pain is multiplied by a million.....is it possible for you to realize that it is possible for a RNC to be sunken in and making someone (not you of course, RNC never works on you) pass out?
if you seen plenty of videos of people getting out...then you didn't see a completed RNC. you saw an attempt at a completed RNC.
you must be tough as hell from the way that you talk. you're probably tougher than Tank Abbott who tapped out like a baby from a little ankle lock or Randy Coutoure who quit b/c he got grazed on the eyelid and lost his belt. just curious, what's your name and what's your tournament record so i can check it out.
You don't get it do you, this has nothing to do with me. It has everything to do with effectiveness and the probability of a technique doing what you think it will. If you have a knockout capable jab, that is high probability, RNC is a high probability, A cross is a high probability, an Eyegouge is a high probability.
Joint manipulation such as digits and wrists are low probability. Not that they can never happen, but if your game plan relies on you needing to get a thumb lock before you can move on, you have problems.
And if you find someone like me, who only cares about survival and not taking damage, then when you go for the ground, you better hope to god they aren't armed. Because that is the best way I know of to negate ground skills. Just like you can negate stand up to some degree with clinch.
you can train however you want, but if you think sparring is full resistance then you better stay in the ring and not venture out into the world where people don't let you tap, and they don't fight fair.
would be nice if you worked the quoting function correctly.

show me where i presented myself as being macho. otherwise you're just making shit up.Originally posted by Michael Wright View PostActually, he is, so it might be a good idea to drop the attitude.
If you have a point to make then articulate it with composure and a tolerance for the views of others, because right now you are just coming across as an immature, macho prick.
learn what? from you and some guy who's response to everything will be...take the pain and/or pull out a knife? If you want to stick around and maybe learn something from some very experienced people (namely those you are bitching at) then reign in the bravado and maybe listen to what people are saying. Alternatively, if you want to alienate yourself from the members and ultimately the forum, then just keep it up.

Your loss, I frankly couldn't give two shits.
