  • College Education for everyone, including Big Bird

Big bird: The poorest of the poor can get a college education without begging the government for another handout.

I raised my right hand and committed four years of my life to the U.S. Army. I saved my $100 a month for a year to get the G.I. Bill.(this has been 15 years ago, it may be more now) I got a good job skill that I could take with me when I left the service. I worked and put myself through college. I didn't get any college loans, I just worked. Emphasis on the word WORK.

SHAZAM!!! Here I is today, a college educated civilian. I ain't the sharpest crayon in the box either. If I can do it, ANYBODY can do it. This crying about being poor is a crock of Poo Poo.

P.S. Gun control disarms the law abiding citizens.

If I'm a scumbag criminal I'm hoping and praying you liberals get your way and pass gun control. Then I don't have to worry about armed resistance.

If I'm a scumbag criminal,to show my thanks to you liberals, I think I'll come rape your wives, girlfriends and daughters first.(I will probably get shot since your laws don't apply to you)

This is the reality of gun control. We already have laws against killing people. We just need to do what they do in Texas and provide a deterent to the criminal. i.e. put them in the eternal rear naked choke.

    Just a thought

Patt you dumb Muther, talk like that will only get your
A S S into way too much trouble for you to handle.

Any bets how long your post gets deleted and/or you get booted? You better edit that post quickly sheet head. When you start to insult people's families, that is too close and do you wonder why a lot of people hate you? Wake up.

      Hey Clitoris!

Check this out Clitoris, some people do not want to become soldiers and fight in wars over oil or to get the attention off who a certain president is getting a blow job from. Why should I or any other kid be forced into military service to get a college education. We might as well live in cold war Russia if that is the case.

I'm sorry Sweep but I find Patty's post amusing in a sick, perverted way.

        Hey Big Terd:

No need to get personal. If you don't want to serve the country that provides you the highest standard of living in the free world, that is your choice.

If you have two functioning arms, and you are not paralyzed from the waiste down, GET A JOB!!! It won't kill you.

It is not written into the Constitution that everyone is entitled to a free lunch. In economics it is called TANSTAAFL.

THERE AIN'T NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH!!!

Not even for you Big Bird.

Nobody is asking for a hand out, just a hand up. Thank god I was fortunate enough to be born with parents that could send me to 2 different 4 year universities. But I also realize everyone isn't as fortunate. I am a firm believer in programs like americorp and other community service for college education programs. There just are not enough of them out there.

Now your sounding reasonable. No one has a problem with programs to help people get started. I am an advisory board member for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. I know there are people who need a break. I'm obviously for that.

Some people aren't as eager to sell their souls to the U.S. Government for a chance to go to college.

              I had to wait tables.

                HMMMMM,
                Lacymosa,
I don't see how joining the service and serving your country
is selling your soul. I haven't always agreed with a lot of things that our government did, however I've always been proud of serving in the Marines and being a Vietnam Veteran. Hopefully I misread or misunderstood your post, but, hoodwinked or not, when I joined up in 1968 I believed in what I was doing. Although a lot wiser now, I'll always feel we had to take a stand at the point and time we did. When it became evident we could win the war and wouldn't, things changed, however none that lived or died that I ever knew in the service were "selling their soul".

                  Hawk:

I used to feel the same as Lac about the military. Now I am older and wiser...well, older, LOL!

I no longer think ALL military people are brainwashed robots (though I'm still a huge Kubrick fan). I'm sure there are some, and you probably knew them. People who can justify any atrocity in the name of "their country". Unfortunately, those people will always be attracted to the armed forces, in any society. The idea of wearing a uniform and killing legally has a strange appeal to them.

However, there are many, MANY more individuals who serve bravely and honorably in the military, like yourself. Furthermore, our military plays a vital role around the world in both official "peacekeeping" missions, and combat-ready operations which in fact keep peace, like Korea. So I have changed my opinion on this. I personally never want to aim a gun and shoot somebody, but unfortunately I can understand the need for it, most often when innocent lives are at stake, such as in the Balkans.

I'm not answering for Lac, just trying to clarify a "liberal" position on the military.

I think it some point we all sell our souls. Hopefully to the right clients.

                    Ronin,
I've always felt we needed a strong military, although
I 've never wanted a totally professional military. On the other hand I've never been part of the "Love it or leave it"
bunch either. My point is this: Then and now, many 18 or 19 year olds join the service for many reasons, and most at that age don't have enough sense to "sell their soul" or anything else. Some do it for adventure, some do it to get away, some do it cause their Dad did it, etc. There are a ton of reasons. Very few in my experience do it so they can kill somebody. Patriotism still means a lot to a lot of people.

I think we're on the same page here. My point was today's military often gets a bad rap. Hope that came through.

Peace, love, and flowers, my brother!

Actually I thought it was Kuwait? I believe they have more millionaires per capita than anyone.

I personally have two honorable discharges, one from the Navy and the other from the Army. Granted, I hated it while I was in (obviously I didn't learn my lesson because I joined twice) but now that I'm older I've come to really appreciate what being in the service taught me. The service will teach you discipline and responsibility. I think if more of these gang members were forced into military service we'd have a lot less problem with them. Just my 2 cents worth.

Micky: True-but the MAJORITY of the population there aren't millionaires-they have 'little people' to sustain them. Granted, wealth isn't everything-check the almanac, Belgium has held the title for several years.
