    Gene LeBell

    Greetings,

First, please at least spell the name correctly. It's Gene LeBell - Why would you be so unkind to a man in which is a living legend?

We generally charge for Privates and Classes at the Hayastan Academy located in Hollywood, CA, but as a staff member I would like to personally invite you to attend at no charge so you can see for yourself what a great legend Gene Lebell is.

    Regards,
    Debra Hartsell

First, for some reason they put old man LaBell (about 70 years old) in a speedo w/ no shirt. He looks like one these old men you see at the swiming pool at the Y: chicken legs, vericose veins, big belly, hairless caved in chest. LaBell's opponent looks like a survivor of a concentration camp. Come to think of it that might be the only kind of people Labell's techniques work on.

Labell shows leg locks of someone who has you in their guard. In one move you step you stand in the guard and step one leg across their body, step your other leg the other way and sit down! It's really a joke.

        Hello,

I wish I was around back during the time when Mr. Gene LeBell was fighitng at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. It would have been a great pleasure to watch him in action.

Keep up the good work! May God bless your family for giving and sharing your great skills.

            Hi,

I had the pleasure of training with a small group at Gene's cabin. He was very nice and gave a great class. All the moves he showed were very effective and very painful, It was an honor to train with such a great legend and I felt very fortunate that I was allowed into his home.

That being said, I think it was unnecessary and malicious to attack him on a personal level. As far as his technique, for every move he has that you think is hard to pull off, he's got a hundred that are easy, high probability moves.

There will be monuments of that guy when he is gone, he is a phenominal grappler and so much of what he does is intended to be humerous. His cloths, his faces (haha), and even some moves in his book, hes a funny old guy who is capable of choking anyone I know out.

Gene's books and teachings are my favorites on the subject of submission wrestling.

there are a number of submissions from catch wrestling that are really nasty if put on by someone who knows how to set them up properly... the thing is they can do some serious damage!

judo gene i believe hung around some great wrestlers as a kid who taught him how to put them on.... hes a living legend!!

Hey, Americana, even if Uncle Gene is wearing a speedo and is 80 years old... HE'D STILL KICK YOUR ASS! LeBell doesn't have to worry about looking pretty or tough ( the pink gi) b/c he KNOWS he can kick ass, thus no problems with ego (as opposed to many others out there).

what about bret harts sharpshooter? is that a real submission hold as well? id love to tap someone out with that at a bjj competition one day. also theres chris benoits crossface. he traps an arm with his legs, and pulls on the head with a crossface on, looks like it would hurt in real life.

also what do think about the peoples elbow? doing that in a mma match would be simply electrifying.
