The MMA News » Blog Archive » Bas Rutten “Kimbo Has More Skill Than Lesnar.”

EliteXC held their Conference Call today and it was quite a lively affair. In addition to the usual banter between Ken Shamrock and Kimbo Slice(during which Shamrock certainly held his own) there was an interesting comment made by Slice’s trainer Bas Rutten. Here’s the gist of it(not a direct quote):

Kimbo has much more skill than Brock Lesnar and feels he is a more well rounded fighter. Bas doesnt want to take anything away from Lesnar, but he feels Kimbo is just better.

Rutten has been known to be a straight shooter in the MMA world, but this statement is a hard one to justify, especially after Slice’s last performance. EliteXC CBS Saturday Night Fights takes place on October 4th and will feature Ken Shamrock returning to action against mainstream MMA fighter Kimbo Slice.

    ***Cmon Bas! that's not True***

I'm going 2 have to disagree with Bas on this one. See, I picture a fight between the two going something like this:

    Ding ding ding-"KIMBOOOOOOOOOO-"(Record player stops) F5, F5, F5!!!!!!!!!!! Dunzo.

Kimbo couldn't stop Sean Gannon in the clinch...yikes. This fight would be over in under a minute. Brock's ground and pound bloodies the beard

Hey, Bas is trying to build morale for his fighter. There is nothing wrong with that. I faught once, where a coach for other fighter came over and told me that he can beat anyone up. I still won, but you can't blame the coach for doing all that he can do.

Money does funny things to people sometimes. I guess after the glory of the INSIDE of the ring ends, the potential glory on the OUTSIDE of the ring (as a trainer/promoter) is hard to pass up. Especially when you have such name recognition and respect as a former champion like Bas.

Bas is truly one of my all time favorites just based on wit and humor alone aside from his skill as a world champion but in my opinion, he should back a young up-and-comer who has the real potential to be a good promoter of the sport of MMA. Not some thug who through 15 minutes of internet fame has nothing more to give then inviting everyone to party at some bar after getting his ass handed to him in the ring.
