Bruce Lee - Kung Fu Fighting - Amazing videos are here

"Thats good, because Kung Fu is the most practical martial art on the planet, especially for street defense and it is also the most advanced for of fighting known to man, in my opinion. I am not just boasting, I really believe this."

Really? Feel free to show us some evidence of that. There are literally millions of examples of video online nowadays, so I'm sure there are plenty of examples?

"There are some kung fu techniques that if they were used in the modern day kick boxing or boxing or MMA fights would shock many, I am speaking of long range circular strikes and tiger tails etc. Things we never see in many sport arenas."

I hear this so often... IF they were used, they'd surprise you? The 'masters' of the art would never actually use their skills because it's 'far too deadly'? So tell me... What would happen if before mixed martial arts developed you put one of these amazing kung fu stylists in a ring/cage with no time limits, a referee who couldn't stop the match, no gloves and only biting/fish-hooking and eye gouging prohibited. Sorry, it already happened, and the result is available for all to see. Is your master confident enough in his style to accept challenges from other martial artists? If so, then please show us...

Nowadays MMA is a sport with lots of rules, but the well-rounded athletes in the sport commonly use BJJ, muay thai, and wrestling. So why don't we see any kung fu practitioners at a high level? Sure, we see guys who STARTED in KF before moving onto something else, but if it's got such 'shocking' techniques where are the KF purists in MMA today?

"And in Kung Fu there are many maiming techniques and breaking techniques that won't kill the attacker. I would have to say that there are more techniques that will just stop an attacker than kill him."

Great - so the techniques AREN'T too deadly to be used. Okay, let's see some. Seriously.

"But as far as kung Fu being dangerous, yes it is, and it was designed for combat street survival in reality based fighting."

So I guess the some of the biggest armies and defence agencies in the world use it as their official fighting style? Oh no... I'm getting Kung Fu mixed up with Gracie Jiu Jitsu, or Krav Maga.

"There are so many Kung Fu masters and fighters that are not on You Tube. You cannot judge a style by what few things you find there."

Interesting argument against having any evidence to support your claims. Now that's thinking ahead...

"And whatever you do do not try to judge Kung Fu by that pathetic video from Gracie where it shows the so called kung Fu man, fighting against the Jujitsu practitioner. The man in that video did no Kung Fu at all as far as I saw."

Are you talking about the video of Rorions challenge upstairs in the Gracie Academy, or Royce's challenge downstairs? There were different Kung Fu practitioners in each video, and neither of them lasted long. So how about I show you five OTHER videos of a jiu jitsu practitioner beating a kung fu practitioner? Or six? Or seven? In return, feel free to provide evidence of kung fu beating jiu jitsu.

"And also, don't try to judge all Kung Fu styles by a few drunken men who act like Bruce Lee etc. that is not a fair judgement."

Great. Show us some (unsetup) examples of non-drunk KF guys in a real environment.

"Lastly, most of the techniques we se in MMA or other fighting are covered in kung Fu as well. The techniques that you will not see as much of in Kung Fu are from styles like Jujitsu or judo etc. But you will find some of them."

So just to understand this comment... If a guy is an effective fighter using muay thai or jiu jitsu, he's actually using kung fu moves? I'm not even going to comment on that...

I teach plenty of guys who did a traditional art such as kung fu or karate, and they all soon realise the difference between a classical art or sportive, and a practical one. When they tell me that they're frustrated at having wasted so many years of their life learning something that's worthless I reply that ALL martial arts are good, they teach discipline, balance, are fun etc. It's just that some are more practical than others, and false confidence can be a VERY dangerous thing. I hate the whole 'my art is better than your art' debates because I think that in self defense one has to be rounded, but when someone claims that their art is the 'most practical martial art on the planet' without providing any proof or examples I have to respond.

I do some security work here, and you'd be welcome to show me the 'nerve attacks' etc that you refer to in your other posts. But I'll be sticking to the techniques I feel confident with... And wearing a stab vest...

I'm aware that a comment such as this will start an art v art debate (which of course no-one will win because everyone has their own opinions), but I'm challenging you right now to back up your claims with some evidence...

edit: or for a more concise answer, see TANT's previous response...

This Man Ashida Kim has nothing to do with me. I don't know who he is. Don't lie about me any more, or make up stuff it doesn't help anything when you do that.

I know these are just movies, so you don't need to remind me. But the smaller man in some of these is a real Kung Fu master. You can tell by his movement that he has real skill.

But to fight in this manner on the streets would be the best in my opinion. Real Kung Fu is similar in the stances and movement, even though real kung fu is not coreographed, it has some similarities to this. Many of the Kung Fu moves you see are actual kung fu moves in Hung Gar and other styles.

But to fight this way , in form and with stances take many years. Most give up before they can fight this way and they go into kick boxing style of fighting etc.

Personally this is how I like to fight. I've gotta work on my web-spinning technique though, this guy is way better than me at that

In all honesty and humility it takes a fairly dedicated student to stick with anything for twenty years or more.

I can't say anything negative about his zeal for the arts.

Hey, Spidey's been kicking ass for a lot more than 20 years! Seriously, although I can't argue with your point I'd hope that after 20 years of training one wouldn't be using action movies to make their point about their style of choice.

If a student of yours cant survive street scenarios using it before you turn 60....it probly doesnt belong in this thread.

All arguing aside though, Kung-Fu is beautiful to watch....hope that helps
