I was just pumped from training,at least my post has something to do with MMA.Most of your idiotic ramblings have nothing to do with MMA what-so-ever.What are you here for?Seems as though you try and start arguements with every poster here.If you don't like my posts then just use the ignore feature and be done with it.
    Sorry.

    YOU'RE A FREAKIN STUD!

Is your ego sufficiently pumped now?

I actually brought this topic up a couple months ago, but this is a good oportunity to bring it up again to get some more opinions.

      So here is the Question:

If your ever have to get in a street fight with someone far taller than you are (i.e. they have a great reach advantage on you), wouldn't you be way better off by shooting and there by taking the fight to the ground and grappling with your opponent?

By taking the fight to the ground you would essentially be taking away your opponent's reach advantage.

Oh ya I'm also assuming that you have good skills in both striking and grappling (i.e. if you were a champ kick boxer and had never grappled before you would not take the fight to the ground no matter how tall your opponent was).

I'm also assuming that you don't know any back ground info on your opponent (i.e if he was a champ submission wrestler and you were not as proficient with grappling (as your opponent), you would not take the fight to the ground no matter how tall he was).

Some would probably say that you should just get in close to your opponent to strike (not on the ground) but I might argue that that would not be AS GOOD an option because if he was a big strong guy he might still be able to grab you (say by the shirt) and hold you out at the range where he wants you (i.e. where he can strike you but you can't strike him). This would be especially true if you had a shirt on (i.e. similar to a hockey fight).

Don't get me wrong the "getting in close to your opponent to strike" is still a good idea with merit, I'm just argueing that it would not be AS GOOD an idea as taking the fight to the ground, for the reason I gave.

I would love to hear some more opinions on this!
Yeah, you bring up some good points that I agree with.If it had been a real fight and I didn't know his background I probably would still strike with leg kicks and then work my way to try and shoot in on him to take him to the ground. You are absolutely right about most average guys on the street know nothing about the guard. Most taller guys will probably try and grab you when you are close to them so striking them would possibly be less effective than just shooting in and getting the takedown and taking the mount and then working on finishing him.
