  • Opinions in Brazil of American BJJ'ers?

Just curious on what the opinions are in Brasil of American BJJ'ers.
On one hand, i'm sure there is excitement that the art is spreading, the financial benefits, etc.

How do they view our "game" in general?

(of course, anyone with a school here isn't going to say we're horrible, no skill, etc... I'm looking for the opinion of the average mat rat in brasil

One thing that I've learned when I was in Brasil is that they're scared to death of our takedown abilities. They believe that we've all been wrestling since birth.

As far as skill goes, The american style is different but in no way insuperior to that of the Brasilians. They say that we fight a very aggressive style while they tend to be more relaxed.

They know that we're catching up every year. Last year it was BJ Penn and who knows what will happen this year. Every year since the birth of the Mundial we've crept a little closer.

one thing is we have so many of their most talented instructors here: good nutrition. good work ethic. lots of wrestling and judo backgrounds.

I also would like to hear some honest opinions.

          Good point NHB

Our growing success isn't just luck. A lot of the very best BJJ practitioners have made it to the US. Our Brazilian imports are some of the best instructors in the world and take a lot of pride in their students and their success.
