  • Kids fighting!!!

I just had to share this story! Recently a couple boys started training Muay thai at the gym. They are probably junior high aged or 9th graders at the oldest. Typically I hate the idea of training alongside kids because they dont' usually take stuff seriously. But I've changed my mind on these guys because they have sincere interest and train very hard. And it is also pretty amazing just how quickly they pick things up. Today they put on quite a damn show. Apparently two of them just decided to throw on the headgear and shin guards and go ballz out on one another. They were allowed to go for it, with one of the instructors supervising in the ring. They simply flew at each other wailing away with hooks and overhands and blasting thai kicks repeatedly. It was funny watching two kids beat the snot out of each other like that. For one round they flew at each other eating kicks, knocking one another down to the canvas, wailing in pain and rolling around dizzy as hell...and then they'd get right back up and do it again! Usually you should spar for at least a couple rounds, but after one round like that, those two were too fukked up to even stand straight. After laying in the ring breathing heavily and groaning for a bit, one of them sitts up weakly and mumbles to his friend, "Hey y-you fukker...you...kicked me....in the nutz...!" To which he replies, "That's...what...you get...for punching...like a b!tch." I was laughing my a$$ off! They're funny as sh!t. I think I'm going to help train them so that they can beat on each other harder God I'd hate to see what those crazy little sh!ts would do to the kids at the local TKD/karate McDojos. LOL, they're gonna be the baddest mofos on the playground!

Your instructor is obviously not too concerened with the two boy's well being. Sparring can be very dangerous and careful supervision is absolutely necessary especially when the boys are that young. Where are the parents? They should be supervising as well.

        Hey Tracy,

keep your panties on buddy. That trainer was of course concerned about their safety. Why do you think he didn't let them go another round? And why do you think they were wearing headgear, gloves and shin guards? If you really want to learn how to fight then you gotta exchange some bruises every once in awhile. What better time to do it than when you are young? Kids their age do all sorts of rough and tumble even without adult supervision and they usually get past it unscathed. Kids today kill themselves doing skateboarding tricks and imitating WWF wrestling. I personally don't see any reason why they shouldn't push themselves the same way while doing something more productive. Hell, if kids can play football and wrestle in school I don't see any danger in kickboxing. I'm not saying they should destroy each other like that on a daily basis, but that was only one round. Besides, they wanted to spar hard...its not like they were being forced to do anything they didn't want to. The enthusiasm and invincible spirit of youth does a lot to build character and confidence, don't you think. I think that any instructor who'd discourage that strong, competitive mentality has no business teaching martial arts. Its better for them to exchange those heavy shots in the gym where they can be supervised than alone in the backyard or on the street with other kids. Lighten up buddy.

I don't believe I am being uptight in the slightest sense. Getting hurt will not teach you how to defend yourself especially at such a young age. When trained properly the mind can prepare the body for the most intense pain and completely block it out.

I'm sorry, but i consider that bull$hit and a great way to develop false confidence. But whatever, I'll respect your opinion. You have your's as I have mine. Whatever works for you works for you.

UGH. I have to agree with Maximus on this one.

Good to see that they are willing to take blows. Hard training makes for easy fights.

I wish I've had an instructor like the one from Maxximus dojo, back when I started...

One eye for the safety, but:
