  • Famous Royce Gracie quotes!

These are just some of the ridiculous Royce GRACIE quotes...

..."It's sad, but you can't fish a fish who doesn't want to bit your bait. And you can't fight when your opponent doesn't want to fight" - Black Belt magazine Royce Gracie editorial , August 1995 issue.

"My dad, Helio, once fought for three hours and 45 minutes with no break, no referee and no rounds. Now, that's a fight. If I have to go all night, I'd like to break that record and go for four hours." Same issue as above

"Some of the fighters in the Extreme Fighting show claimed to have pretty impressive records. One guy, Brazilian Mario Sperry, claimed to be 273-0, and then he went out and lost. Guys like that must just make up numbers when they are asked what their fighting record is....it's almost impossible to have 270 fights. I don't have that many wins, and I've fought a lot."....
"There were a couple of fighters in the event that should be ashamed of the way they looked. I have to wonder where they got their back belts" --Black Belt magazine Royce Gracie editorial March 1996 issue

"I sometimes feel like a circus lion tamer because I have to deal with serious fighters who have the courage to step into the UFC octagon. And I regard individuals like Boztepe as the clowns who entertain the audience between performances" - Black Belt magazine Royce Gracie editorial July, 1995 issue.

I could go on and on but I'm getting tired of typing. In retrospect much of what Royce stated comes across as a wee bit pompous, and arrogant.

Go to the interviews at bjj.org and you'll see several interviews where he acts like a total dick. Man, he would have been such a hero if he hadn't put everyone else down and been respectful.

Royce Gracie was undefeated in the UFC and proved to all that he was indeed a true warrior. I don't know if he said these things or not(as I have not read the actual magazines) but his jujutsu has in the past definitely proven to be top notch. I truly believe that with a little variation in his approach to training he can be back in that top spot once again.

Royce will never be back on top. I agree that he's a very technical fighter, however he's just not athletic enough to play with the big boys and from his recent performances he's had a hard time playing with boys his own size. I don't mean to flog a dead horse and keep bashing away at Royce "et al", it just that I resent his, (and brother Rorion's) retorts whenever they lose. Give credit where credit is due if someone beats you it means just one thing, "they fricken beat you". They've never accepted a defeat without whining and crying and carrying on about this and that. And that just pisses me off. Their arrogant attitude was working fine when no one knew their game plans. Now that everyone has caught up they continue to talk trash and I can't help but re-post some of that $hit to show what kind of bad sportsmen they really are.

          1) Royce is not undefeated in the UFC. He threw in the towel in UFC3.

          2) No amount of training will change Royce. He's an opportunist grappler with good submissions and lousy strikes.

          3) Sak and Wallid both made Royce their BITCH. Royce cannot compete at the top level of MMA.

          4) Royce has a big mouth and deserved to be choked out by Wallid and battered by Sak. Where is smack talkin Royce now?

Ok I'll give you some credit on Boztepe. He is a punk ass himself.

                Just came across another famous quote from Gracie Jiu-Jitsu News, Number 17 issue, Winter 1995;

"Congratulations to Royce GRACIE on his impressive victory in UFC IV. Royce once again demonstrated that a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu trained fighter is unbeatable"

                Unbeatable eh?

"The winning team, we never change. At least thats what we say in Brazil." Something needs to change.

"Money or no money, Im still just me. Im not in it for the money. Im in it for the honor." I wanna see him fight for free and redeem his honor.

Im not trying to bash him, but he was the first person I really looked up to as an adult, and I believed in what he said. I sometimes wonder if he remembers saying these things. There are more, I just cant remember off the top right now.

Royce didn't come out after fighting Kimo and that counts as a loss? Have you tried fighting 4 fights in a night? You guys are probably just mad cuz he destroyed your Karate heroes. Just my opinion, otherwise you'd show some respect instead of nit picking at his quotes.

                      Royces most meaningful quote

                      "Im going to Disneyland.....

....With the money that Rorion extorted from you fools that paid to see me fight burnt out old amatuer kickboxers."

Having met Royce a couple of times, I've always been shocked by what he says in interviews. Face to Face, he's always been very polite, respectful and at times shy about his "fame". I realize that some people feel that talking trash helps promote fights, but with Royce...well, I just don't get it.

I visited Royce's academy in torrance this last August, and he was cool as hell. He showed us around, and even turned the class over to a senior student so he could sit and talk with me and one of my students, as well as show us pictures of some recent fights that he and his students have been to. He was a great host, and he ran an awesome class. I guess the trash talking just comes from pre and post fight adrenaline, and the long periods of training and mental preparation. Those who have been there know that everybody handles it differently, and sometimes you're a lot more testy and pissed off then than you normally would be. Probably doesn't help that his english is so broken...I would bet that some of his comments lost something in the translation...
At any rate, he's just a guy, and he's won some and lost some. Big deal.

Both Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock were too scared to face Canadian Phenom Harold Howard. It took a Ninja to destroy the mighty Howard. Steve Jennum, there can only be one.
