You should see what I look like on an average day, wearing sweats & no makeup . This picture was taken by an amateur photographer friend of mine who wanted to take some fashion pics. Dressing up like this is really not my thing, although I do make an effort once in a while.

Hey my fiancee would kill me but I have to say your very pretty. Not to many women in BJJ, hopefully there will be more in the coming years, there probably will be.

I just want to give you one suggestion, if I were you I would round out your grappling skills (that you will get from BJJ) with striking skills. If you ever have to deal with some scum bag it would be better to kick his ass good on your feet and that way he probably won't be able to get his hands on you at all.

Not that your grappling skills aren't just (if not more) important, you want to have your striking skills also. So maybe look into the possiblity of Muay Thai classes. Ask around most people agree that is the best striking art.

You can never be to safe, especially in NYC, (I grew up in Newark, Jersey) so I might also suggest you'll want some pepper spray also, but you probably already know that.

Also, like Ryu said, most guys here are nice guys but there are a few Jerks also (although I haven't seen or heard from many in a long time), just ignore those types, and the rest of us will give you good advice.

I was just trying to be nice to the one girl we have on here, but I'm basically a married man and in love with a beautiful girl of my own, so I'm not trying to come off like I'm trying to pick someone up off the internet.

Just giving one little innocent compliment, and some advice for any woman living in NY, that's all.

Can't a guy try to be nice to someone without it coming off as something sleazy. I guess probably not in New York. I sort of want more women to come into BJJ, it might help to make our sport more main stream.

Plus as a guy who is surrounded by girls all day (fiancee, fiancee's friends, daughters, occasionally mother and grandmother) I tend to get along with them, so it might be nice to have a couple more on forums like this as well as in MMA.

Nothing sleazy about that, it is just that they are often a welcome voice of reason.

- picture by "amatuer" photographer friend who uses body make-up, studio backgrounds, and multi-array flash lighting.

- no previous MA experience yet knows about "rolling" and "open mat".

Please excuse my skepticism, but this is a bit much to swallow.

My god. What is up with this forum? Half the posts are off-topic and now I've got a guy syaing I'm not for real! I didn't say that I don't have any experience, I said I have a little experience from praqcticing with my uncle. As for the picture and the equipment, have you ever heard of renting studio time? Duhhhh!. As for my crappy Yahoo website, I admit I'm clueless, that's why it's so basic. Oh well, most people here have been very nice and welcoming. Tim helped me when I had problems registering and Goddess sent me a very kind, considerate email in which she said you guys are mostly cool, but there are a few jerks. How right she was!

John, I don't want to create enemies here, can we please get along? The only reason I am here is to learn more about BJJ.
