  • Mario Sperry - Master Series I and II

    Anyone have these tapes?

I heard they kick ass for advanced sport juijitsu. My question is are they also a good standalone set for those new to BJJ. or do you have to go out and buy a beginners set to learn that?

In other words do they cover the proper way to learn beginner move (arm bar etc) so that even a white belt learns it right the first time, instead of correcting their pre blue belt mistakes later.

    Appreciate the input!

I wouldn't recommend them as a beginner set. The are a good sets and perhaps after a year or so the first one would be a good pick up.

For the beginnner beginner I would reccommend looking into some of the following

    a) Roy Harris BJJ-101 - 3 tape set. Not a ton of techniques but provides an excellent over all framework to approach BJJ. It's a tape you can look at the prinicpals over and over.

    b) Michael Jenn tapes in no particular order
    1) Ulitmate Guard 2) Guard Passing 3) Pin Escapes

    c) I have heard good things about the Pedro Carvalho series but I havent seen it myself.

    d) The gracie tapes, too expensive but they explain well what they explain.

Perhaps after a year of comfort with BJJ then add the Sperry Master Vol 1 into the mix.

    Good Luck
