  • OT: My Father-In-Law is very excited...

about Bushes new bill that will allow churches to get government grants for charity. I just got off the phone with him, and it was a shocker for me.

Basically, I couldn't understand why he was so excited....I mean, sure churches like to help people (or should) but the money would have been going to help people regardless, right?

Well he explained it too me.

He is excited because these grants will help him expand church membership by funding church mass mailings and advertisement.

"Wait a minute" I said " I thought these grants were for charitable purposes??"

"Oh they are" he replied " but you see, every year we allocate a certain % of our budget for charitable endevors...let's say that this year we allocated $10,000 to providing free meals for people. Well, if we get a $10,000 grant from the government, then we can take the $10,000 of our own money that we WOULD have spent on the Meals program, and instead use it for other church purposes, and use the grant money for the Meal program."

In effect, it is just pushing numbers around and in the end the grant money really will be used for promoting his church.

    What a load of BS.

Damn,I was hoping they came out with a cherry flavored Geritol.
I hate to say it,but our government just may not be playing fair with the taxpayers. It's just a theory though.

I believe these grants are "supposedly" for all religious institutions, not just churches. Dick Cheney or someone in Bush's cabinet was questioned whether the Church of Scientology would qualify for government grants. Needless to say, the question was side-stepped. It's crystal clear what the purpose of these grants are, and who influenced them. What a f*ckin' joke.

I still hate you though, so don't get all sentamental on me.

          Shimora,
jesus, I had taken you for lost somewhere over the Pacific. Hows that Zero holding up? As soon as I am a Master Sushi Chef I will be able to move on to other things

Lets see....a Ninja Master, A steroid freak, and a Sushi Chef; the human mind simply cannot grasp the enormity of what we could accomplish with the Church Of Ninchido (otherwise refered to as C.O.N.)

I don't believe we should have Meals on Wheels programs. Most poor people are too fat already.

LMAO @ judo guy. Reminds me of this semi-homeless (he lived in the Y) guy that I used to work with at a cafe in Seattle. He told me to never believe any homeless person who says they need money for food (not that I really do). The guy told me that in Seattle you can get four square meals a day for free.

Masala, does this mean that you married a Gentile?

                  Masala,

First time we agreed on something? I wasn't aware you disagreed with a lot of things I said in the past. The beef is certainly on your part, not mine. Take it easy.
