  • Fedor loses for the first time!!!!

Damn, I can't believe he lost!

But it's a sport. If you fight for long enough, eventually you lose.

He was a little bit too careless when he dove on top of Werdum to try to finish him with strikes. He didn't connect cleanly enough and got stuck with one arm in and one arm out.

For his whole career, Fedor has fought world class strikers standing and world class grapplers on the ground, he hasn't shied away from any challenge in the fight (with the exception of the Semmy Schilt fight where he opted to take him down). He stood against Cro Cop and banged, and he spent most of the Nog fight on the ground.

MMA fans are a fickle lot. Also the UFC's propoganda has tried to discredit Fedor for the past few years. I hope true fans remember Fedor's unprecedented win streak and that he is still the greatest HW in MMA of all time.

That was unbelievable, plain and simple.

Even after the fight Fedor remained calm like if nothing had happened,
win or lose his composure is amazing.
I think only Wanderlei got it right, he was sure Werdum was going to take this fight.

Also Mark Hunt had him in a solid Kimura and seemed to be controlling the fight,
and Fedor escaped and submitted him like if it was the easiest thing to do.

I agree, the UFC is usually a good event but they have no problems discrediting
others if they don't agree with them.

It is hard to believe that he got caught by a triangle choke so easily.

I think he thought Werdum was hurt and was going for the kill. I'm sure he was aware of the triangle but thought he'd land some solid strikes so that the triangle wouldn't happen.
Fedor spent days in Noguiera's guard, he must know quite a bit of bjj not have to have ever been subbed before last week.
          But Werdum did execute beautifully.

There are exciting things going on outside the UFC!

I couldn't believe he made such a rookie mistake with all the fight experience he has. Not smart to sit there facing the triangle of a two time world bjj champ when he could have easily stood up.

That's rich, Tim. I'm sure you would have done much, much better. Its not like shit happens or anything. And Fedor did the right thing: Every other time he's used this approach he's won. His "overwhelm and close the distance" strategy has worked for him every other time except this time. Someone just caught him underestimating their own ability to finish. The numbers don't lie.

This loss doesn't bode well for all the grappling sheep who claimed that grapplers/MMA fighters of Fedor's calibur and experience wouldn't make such foolish mistakes. If Fedor, who is the vanguard of MMA, can make such impulsive and hasty mistakes, it ain't looking pretty for grab ass enthusiasts.

              Fedor is still the man.
