  • Chinese Boxing my ass...

For all those speculating on the Chinese Boxing vs Muy Thai fights... I was actually there... I live in Beijing and I went to see the fights... This is how it went...

For those of you who don't know, it's very typical for Chinese competitions to be rigged in favour of the Chinese. What I mean by "rigged" is that they often have mismatched opponents, with either unfair rules or unfair skill discrepancies.

    First fight - female bout
Thai female scored some excellent knees... She was only 17 years old, probably not a lot of ring experience, but did well. She definately outscored the Chinese fighter with great knees to the solar plexis and abdomen. Chinese fighter had better punches, but did not dominate - AT ALL. Mostly a boring fight with some really horrible punching - they were swinging like girls... well, they were girls, I guess... Thai fighter definately did more damage, but China had home court advantage... China wins, but it was not an asskicking... MT fighter definately landed more strikes without a doubt...

    Second fight - males
Thai kicks the living s*hit outta the Chinese fighter... Chinese fighter resorted to grabbing the ropes the whole time while trying to throw what looked like a feeble TKD sidekick the whole fight... Scored once or twice with it in the first 25 seconds of round 1, but as soon as the MT fighter adjusted to Sanda's sideways stance, he proceeded to deliver massive roundhouse kicks to the outer thigh... totally f*ucked up the Chinese dude... ref almost had to stop it in the middle of the 3rd round, Chinese dudes leg was way too f*ucked up...

    Third fight - males
Sanda uses a sideways stance much like TKD as compared to how MT guys stand... the Thai kid looked like he was only 12 years old... MT fighter ate a couple of good solid sidekicks to the midsection in this fight... But still managed to kick the s*hit outta the Chinese guy the whole fight. Opened up a cut on the Chinese guy, which the referee allowed to be examined 3 times in one single round, instead of just stopping the fight like he should have... MT fighters were not allowed to use knees to the head while Sanda fighters were not allowed to go for single/double legs as their primary attack. Throws can be used only if it is proceeded by punching and kicking... In Sanda, more points are allowed for throws than kicks or punches... Despite this rule, the Chinese competitor single legged the MT fighter for all three rounds, repeatedly without any infractions or warnings or deductions from the Chinese referee... But as soon as the MT fighter brings the knee anywhere close to the head, points are deducted... Chinese fighter wins due to horrible officiating... Even the Chinese spectators thought it was awful...

    Fourth fight - males
The Thai fighter had these awesome tattoos... one huge tat on his back, and another huge tat on this chest... sitting too far away to notice what they were, just knew that he looked damn intimidating... His opponent was a student from a "Shaolin temple" endorsed kungfu academy... Thai fighter proceeded to kick the living s*hit outta the "shaolin priest"... MT is victorious... you should've seen Kwai Chang Kane's thigh in the 3rd round... he was limping already, and had to limp back to the dressing room... His shaved head didn't help him tonight...

    The other fights:

The Canadian MT fighter (I think he was Canadian) which won his fight, outscored his Chinese opponent and had better stamina, but showed poor technical skills. Didn't kick the s*hit outta the Chinese guy... but at the end of round three... clearly had more gas and poored it on during the latter half of round 3... looked good for the judges I guess...

There were 2 other MT representatives which lost their fights, but were not from Thailand. They were foreigners, with extremely limited training (I heard there was an Australian fighter who only had 6 months of MT training only). They were not knocked out or dominated by their Chinese opponents though. The last fight featured some idiot black dude (being black and being an idiot have nothing to do with each other, just merely pointing out that he happened to be black) doing these awful spinning back kicks that were slow and poorly-executed... missed their mark completely... nowhere near the opponent... He was really tall... like 194 cm... don't know what that is in feet, but it's over 6'2 for sure... Anyway, he landed one or two axe kicks... but that's about it... he was more showman than fighter...

To sum it up, of the MT fighters which did lose, 2 were due to bad officiating, and 2 were due to poor skills (the foreigners had less than 6 months and were horrible representatives of MT). Out of the 4 MT fighters that Thailand sent, 2 completely dominated and kicked the s*hit outta the Chinese, while the other 2 fighters outscored their opponents, but were robbed of their victories due to horribly biased officiating...

NONE OF THE FIGHTS THAT THE CHINESE WON WERE DUE TO AN AWESOME DISPLAY OF TECHNICAL SKILLS, and this is just the simple and plain facts.

By the way, did I mention that I'm Chinese... so I'm not some f*ucked up San Da basher... I just happen to be able to experience it first hand here in Beijing... Put it this way, MT is the national sport of Thailand and is a highly brutal and effective martial art which has been carefully practiced and developed over the course of 300-400 years. Chinese San Da has been around for only 25 years... and besides that... you all have to understand that Chinese have this horrible habit of NOT SHARING INFORMATION with each other. If it's something good, Chinese people will keep it a secret, and only pass it on to their own sons/family, or in this case, their own students. There was never a national forum setup to develop and analyze kungfu, wushu, etc... so all the good techniques which might have existed at one time, are now dead and buried with the teacher, especially if they did not pass it on... Carrying information to the grave is not really considered as a horrible thing among Chinese... which is why many Chinese don't think twice about doing it... better to have it die with me than to teach it to others and have it used against me... see what I mean? (not unlike the whole thing with brazilians and jiu-jitsu)

    Great post....

I live in Hong Kong and I've seen some Sanda Tournaments...

Its a shame because this fighting style has alot of potential...but it seems that the Chinese still think that these "traditional" stances and moves are effective...e.g the side stance and stupid kicks...

Do they score big points for spinning kicks?

Thing is in this one tournament I saw....this one fighter was dominating....he had great striking skills...boxing and kicking
and he had great wrestling takedowns!.....he was dominating the fight with leg kicks and great double leg take downs...but he lost by points ??his opponent kept throwing these spinning back kicks to his body....none of them hitting clean...
    what the hell is that?

I'm thinking its also biased judging cos this guy fought a little too "Western" for their liking...

I have also watched alot of the super kung fu challenge? on tv..

those guys are pretty bad....I mean...some of them still use the kung fu style punches and expect them to work...those of them who do have some boxing skills dont use them well...
I dont know...maybe I just saw the bad fights...the kicks were ok

still....I wasn't overly impressed by the standard of those fighters..

The sport can be very exciting....once people there start to crosstrain effectively...

Perhaps the truth about the San Da challenge?

There is a discussion on www.axkickboxing.com about the San Da vs Muay Thai thing that is extremely detailed. There are some opinions and descriptions from people who saw it. It doesn't sound nearly as much like the glorious San Da victory that I read from Chinese reports.
