Well It looks like we're finally getting what we've wanted for a long time. Technical fighters (Herring and Minotauro) that are big enough and athletic enough to hang with the wrestlers. Although I have to admit that Herring didn't beat the Kerr of a few years ago. Sure the wrestlers still have them on takedowns, but that's about it. Of course it's too early to say this is the death of G&P, but I sure hope so.

Most fighters still want the top position in fights cause of the striking advantage. Secondly, it's still extremely hard to land subs on good fighters when you're not wearing a gi!

Heath Herring basically uses his guard when he's forced into that position. That boy's definitely a top player that prefers passing from the top.

Minotauro simply caught ole Mark. Sometimes that's gonna happen.

Besides, I think ground and pound is much more effective for street defense if you find yourself on the ground.

No, you guys are all wrong (except E1am), GnP, atleast the kind you see today is dead.

At first wrestlers couldn't beat BJJ guys even though they were better atheletes and usually outweighed them. Then they began to learn BJJ and cross train and the BJJ guys got screwed. But now, guys like Arona, Penn and Minotauro who actually seriously cross train are giving everyone a run for their money. I haven't seen the Coleman vs. Minotauro fight, but I really doubt Rodrigo just "caught him." From all who saw the fight it sounds like #1 HW in the world got out classed big time. Coleman is a great fighter no doubt, but BJJ guys IMO can always prevail in the end.

Maybe I'm bias, who knows.

BTW, the thing about GnP is, it always existed. Some chose not to use it, but the majority of BJJ guys use it also. However, Wallid or Vitor's GnP IMO is more effective then Coleman or Kerr's. Champion Judoka Oyama was totally GnPed by Wallid and then Wallid went for the kill rather than stalling, which was what Kerr did against Herring. Vitor's GnP is not only technically perfect, but his punches are VERY hard, just like a LHW Marc Coleman you might say; except better technically.
